Default Cute and easy Apron

My DIL goes to craft fairs etc and bought me this apron. I never really paid attention to it before and frankly didn't use it either, I didn't want to get it dirty. But yesterday I grabbed it and wore it. It is made from a store bought sham. Someone came up with this nifty idea and I think I will make some for gifts. I hope my pictures show what they did but I will give a short lesson. Buy a sham, it could be regular, queen or king to fit the person. I would cut each side together so they will be exactly alike. Turn over a nice size hem only at the sides. Buy roping or something you like and thread it through all seams. The neck piece is adjustable and then you tie it around your middle. Tie a knot at the bottom so it won't come through the opening when it's washed. Easy peasy. I also used the inside pocket (where the pillow is supposed to go) to carry my cell phone around.

I see shams at thrift stores and now have a great use for them. Thanks for sharing, and thank DIL too.

I'm thinking that a king size would be great for taller people and maybe the regular size is what this one is. I see really pretty shams almost brand new at thrift stores all the time. I think you could use ribbon instead of rope to pretty it up.

I used a pattern just like this last Christmas to make some aprons, but ran a grogain ribbon through the inserts instead of a rope. Did not think of using a sham. Great idea.
