WE live in the country when our neighbors barns burnt my son ans I called 911, got their animals, out there was no one home, I took her cloths off the line and called her mom then recently my DSIL's garage burnt I went and helped by telling the firemen what I new was in there such as gas, propane and gathered her up. (she was at work) Being there for support. I don't go chasing but try to help out if it is a neighbor. We have also put out a grass fire at an elderly ladies house, Had it out before the fire department got there.

When I was growing up my Dad was the fire chief. The siren would go off (Volunteer fire co) or he would get a call and he's go. If it was in the close area Mom and I would go. So have been to a few.
One day there was a fire across the road from my elementary school which we all watched from inside the school. That same night there was a fire at the lumber yard across the street from the high school. Mom and I went to that one too.
DH and I still go if we can see the smoke and it is a forest fire or such. We often see smoke in the mountains around us. Don't usually chase them just because we hear or see fire trucks going past us though. I just say a prayer, go outside to see if I can see any smoke.

I do not chase fires however there are six members of my family that are a part of the volunteers, EMT, Fire Police, and Fireman so I usually know what is going on. People who chase fire trucks or ambulance's are a hazard to everyone who is just trying to do their job.

I guess I should've clarified - I don't literally CHASE fires, but I do get overly concerned and like to know that everyone is ok, what caused it, etc. And if it's anywhere in our neighborhood, I worry about which house it might be. I don't follow trucks or anything.
