DH went to the dentist today and the dentist has been nagging him about getting his wisdom teeth out. DH's teeth, all 4 of them, grew in perfectly straight and happy (vs mine that grew in sideways and came out when I was 12). The teeth are in fine, he can eat fine, they don't bother him, they're fully functioning and happy teeth.

My mom worked for an oral surgeon for about 7 years and she had always told me that if your wizzies grew in right, then you just left them alone (she has all 4 of hers). Whereas DH's dentist today told him that basically everyone gets their wizzies out, and that at some point in DH's life, the teeth would start to hurt and need to be removed (to which DH said that he would rather wait until they're hurting and then get them out). Dentist then said that during his entire practice he's never met anyone over 70 with their wisdom teeth (and he's in his earlier 30s, so his entire career isn't exactly that long). And I find it unbelievable that no one over 70 has their wizzies (and it's too late to call my family members over 70)

So, the question - for those of you who your wisdom teeth grew in right, do you still have them or did you get them removed as a "preventive" measure?

My DH is 58 and still has all 4 of his wisdom teeth. Never had a problem with them. I say leave well enough alone and don't buy trouble if it's not there.

Besides whatever happened to " If it's not broke, don't fix it?"

I don't have mine - had to have them removed - 2 were impacted and 2 had exploded/shattered when I was 14. My husband is in his late 40's and still has them. Out of my oldest 3 kids - 2 have them and 1 does not. Kimmie - one of the twins had to have hers removed at the first of the year so we made Kaitie go in as well....oral surgeon told us that Kaitie's team looked fine and she may never have to have them removed. So I think everyone is different and I agree - why take them out if you don't have to!
