Default Fabrics for a table cloth

I have been looking all over for some appropriate fabric for a table cloth. This is for an all over the table table cloth, then I would put a quilted runner on it. I need a solid or textured type. I found some already made at the store but turned out to be the wrong ones so am taking them back and I want to make my own. Any ideas as to the type of fabric I should use? I want it washable and not cotton. Thank you.

At one time, there were fabrics out there that were wider and specifically for table cloths, especially around the holidays, but I am not sure if they still offer them.

if you don't want cotton perhaps choose a poly blend? not sure why you don't want cotton- all of the table clothes i've made have been cotton-
you can purchase vinyl from stores like joannes= they also carry many different home-dec fabrics in various widths- perhaps one of them would suit your purpose. the joannes in our area have a very large selection of home-dec fabrics---including table cloth fabrics from linens, to plastics.

Our Hancock's store has a limited selection of tablecloth fabrics at the back of the store near the upholestry/ drapery section. They are very wide - I don't remember the exact width, maybe 72" and you buy by the yard. They were a blend and some might have been poly - looked jacuard. I remember seeing white, cream, red, black, green and check. I bought white jacuard and thought I might be back for the cream. It washes like a dream and looks exactly like ones at Dillards for the very big bucks plus it is exactly tailored to the size of my table. Looks good with my old china and silver when I use it. Not bad with the pottery when that's used.

Thank you for the info. I didn't want cotton because I have a lot of cotton, lol. Just wanted something different, not vinyl but a pretty fabric that is special for the holidays. Like Tanyal was saying something that looks like it could be from Dillards, etc.

You could get some of that cotton fabric that they have for backs -- they are long enough for a queen quilt so they would probably fit the length for any size table -- if it is too long, then you could just make napkins. I would make it double with a bit of batting inside -- it could be reversible (some of the batiks are really yummy!)

I use some of the "lighter"deco fabrics for tableclothes.

Try antique stores. I have found beautiful linens there.
