I know this subject has been brought up several times but I do have questions. I have the Sony PRS-600, love it but there are a couple of things it does not have I wished it did. I would like to have a backlight and also Wi-fi. My questions to you are this. I have looked at the Kindle and from my understanding you can only get their books, is this true or can you download from anywhere. I have even looked at the Nook Color Wi-fi, reading reviews I have seen where alot of them have been sent back for repair. How many has had trouble with theirs?
I can download books from anywhere with my Sony, I just got done looking at the new Sony PRS-T1RC, does anyone have this and can you tell me does it have a backlight? Tried to find the info on the Sony site but it doesn't say anything about it.

Oh by the way I really want Wi-fi on account of me taking it to the Dr and went to read a book and forgot to put anything on it. DUH ME! With Wi-fi I could have just downloaded a book, instead I had to play Angry Birds on my cell.

    Thanks for your help

I don't have an e-reader, but as an author with a few e-books out, I try to keep up with them. I know that Smashwords.com has books you can convert to Kindle compatible formats because three of mine are there as well as at Amazon. I'm sure if you log on there, they'll have more info on that. Good luck.

I have the 650. It doesn't have wifi but where I live it would be useless. That said I have the leather book cover with it that has the light built into the cover. I live this cover and light. It uses a AAA battery and lasts a long time.

the kindle not only gives you access to millions of books (amazon is huge!) but they also have new apps that allow checking books out of participating libraries- that one seems to me to be the one that offers the most access to books...but there may be others

I have a Kindle -- go to Amazon.com and look up "e-books"...and you'll see how many books there are. I buy the $.99 up to $5.99 books. (I save my money for fabric!)
Our library is going to be hooking up with Kindle soon -- then I'll have access to ALL their books. I haven't had any problems EXCEPT....my debit card was accessed. Had to change my debit card in the online purchasing site at Amazon. Every time I order a book I get a notice that it can't access my debit card.........I get the book, the money is taken out of our account, but I still get that message. I've become adept at deleting the message!

I have a Kindle 3G. LOVE IT!!! Nothing like reading in bed at 1:00 am, finishing your book, being mad the author left it on a cliff hanger, going to kindle store and downloading the next book to see if everyone is ok, all within 90 seconds! I love my Kindle and when I look for a new purse I take my Kindle along just to make sure it will fit in new purse. Kindle offers book deal of the day, and you can get some great titles for cheap. I haven't done any library books through Kindle yet, but I must say the 3G is awesome. 3G allows you to buy books wherever, as long as you have a cell phone signal...

I work at a library and help people who have just bought an e-reader learn how to use them.

My pick would be Kindle over Nook because so many people have trouble with the touch screen on the Nook. The buttons are very small and many people end up being frustrated.

If the touch screen is not a problem for you, the Nook Color is awesome. It would be a better choice, in my opinion, if you were interested in things like quilt pattern books. They look much better in color.

Both Kindle and Nook are capable of borrowing books from Overdrive affiliated libraries as of now.

In addition to amazon and borrowing from the library, you can download books from anywhere and either transfer them to the Kindle from your computer or you can e-mail them to your Kindle from your computer. There's a small fee for the latter.

I did trade my Kindle in for an iPad (then iPad 2). I like the iPad much better because of the additional functionality and the fact that it is backlit. It's harder to read in bright sunlight than the Kindle but I'm more likely to read in the dark after my husband goes to sleep than in bright sunlight. I have the Kindle app so I didn't lose any books switching over.

I'm anxious to see what Amazon's tablet will be like. I've been reading good things about it on some of the tech blogs.

Love my Kindle. It has Wi-Fi and I have the cover with the built in light. I read in bed and don't disturb my husband. I also find that I fall asleep quicker that I did when I had a lamp on. I think it is because there is less ambient light.

I love my Kindle, my boss has the Nook and I'm not as impressed with that one. With regard to Wi-Fi, get the one with 3G because if you're sitting in your doctor's office you aren't going to be able to download books unless he has Wi-Fi in the office and then you'd probably have to as for a password in order to be able to access his Wi-Fi anyway.

3G is just like a phone, you get a signal anywhere. I would wait just a bit to see the new Kindles coming out. There's supposedly a touch screen Kindle and also the Kindle Fire which is kind of like an I-Pad which I have no interest in. I have one of the older Kindles and would like to get the new E-Ink technology which is supposedly better contrast. Also if you really don't like advertisements don't fall for the Kindle that sells for a few bucks cheaper because it includes advertisements that will show up on your Kindle. To me that would be extremely annoying.

I forgot to mention that there's a good site for all types of e-readers called MobileRead.com. There are threads addressing every type of reader made. Submit your questions there and someone should be able to help.

I don't have an e-reader. Not sure I would use it much. The books at the library are free. I would rather spend my money on fabric, notions, thread, yarn, and crafty stuff.

Yes, this has been discussed alot but for those of us with opions it's ok. I have both Nooks the 3-g black and white and the color. I love them both but wouldn't give up my color for anything out there. I love the backlights; I can read with the lights off at night or on the beach during the day. I love the color to view magazines with and I love, love the color I get when playing Angry Birds or Ms PacMan; they have tons of apps. It is set up so that I can use it as my organizer and add dates, bills, notes just like an electrical organizer. I have word, excell, etc on to make life easier. It uses a lot of different formats so that you can get ebooks from just about anywhere. B&N is great; it doesn't care where you buy the books from. I can go right into the store and get help when I need it; hate the phone customer service; if need be they'll replace it in the store with a new one; not refurbished one. I can go into the store and read any book there for an hour free of charge. It just offers so much for what you get. I'd buy another one if I ever needed too; without hestitation.

I love my kindle. I can order my books from Amazon (which I generally do anyway) and they are downloaded immediately generally from anywhere that you have cell service. Also Amazon has free books too. They are not backlit, because they don't want it to look like a computer. Much easier on the eyes. Plus it can be read in the sun, unlike a computer. I do not get magazines or quilt books on them, those I like to touch:)

Have you seen the new Kindle Fire? It is their color e-reader. I hope it is as great as it looks. I'm starting to want one.

They're also taking pre-orders for a $79.00 Kindle. They announced it today along with their tablet.

There are two Kindles with ads. $114 and $139. The ad versions haven't been on the market very long. And the ads aren't bad, they don't show up when you are reading and are really good coupons like buy $20 worth of ebooks for $10 and many more actually good coupons.

I am so excited with all the talk. Now I just don't know. I will have to check out the site MobileReader.com hopefully I can compare all of them too. Like I said though I do love my Sony, there are just a couple more things that I want on it. Please keep the feedback coming as this really does help me.

I have a regular Nook (not the Nook color). I love it. I never knew I wanted it until I got it. It has wifi and is small enough to tuck into my purse. I didn't want the Nook color because it was much heavier than the regular Nook. I have about 50 or so books on it now (all free). I haven't tried the books you have to pay for yet. DH said I have to be on a book budget because I love books and would probably drive us to bankruptcy downloading books for my new toy.

I love my kindle but it does not have a backlight, but the battery lasts at least one month between charges. I have the wifi only as I could not afford the other one. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay
