Default Foot Control Question

I have a Bernina Artista 165 Sewing/Embroidery Machine and the foot control hesitates when I am doing regular sewing. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you correct it. I called the lady that gave me the machine (she upgraded to a newer machine) and she told me that her new machine's foot control does the same thing. I am wondering if it normal or not.

I don't know the machine that you have ...

Are you meaning the hesitation is when you are starting to sew? or the whole time you are sewing?

I understand there are some machines that have a gradual start. By this I mean that when you start to sew, it doesn't pick up speed immediately, slow, then a little faster then to full speed! Kind of like a race car being kept a little slower til it's down the track a bit.

Sometimes when I press the foot control, it won't start up right away but once it starts it goes on at full speed. I have checked the connections and everything seems to be fine. I am thinking it may be because it is an embroidery machine also and the foot control isn't used when embroidering. I don't really know the cause of the hesitation. My Bernina 1250 never has done that but it is only a sewing machine without the embroidery part.

Contact your local Bernina dealer and ask them what they think. Maybe the foot control needs to be replaced or perhaps there is a break in the wire that connects it to your machine.

Thank you for your advice.

I had an inexpensive Singer that did that. It was just a sewing machine but the foot control has a bad hesitation. I would have to floor it and then it would take off. I contacted Singer and they sent me a new foot control. Hope this works out for you. I know how aggravating this can be.

Thanks for the advice. I checked with Sewing Machine Parts and they want 169.95 for a foot control that would fit my machine. I will deal with the "slight" hesitation until it won't work then buy a new one.

I have written an email to the Bernina Company and it may be a few days before they will get back with me. I don't live near a dealer and it is about two hours to the closest one. If I have to buy a new foot control, I will order one on line.

Before ordering a new foot pedal. Take your machine in and ask to borrow one of theirs. If it hesitates, then it is the machine. Also, depending on where the foot pedal has been ( in a home with cats, dogs, or lots of sewing) there could be fuzz, pet hair etc inside the pedal. This has happened to alot of Janome owners as well. Be for warned the foot pedals are not cheap. My husband took mine apart, being careful to watch the sequence) and found carpet fuzz in it.
Cleaned it, works great.,

Thank you for that advice. I am very mechanically inclined so I may just do what your husband did...if it doesn't work then I'll bite the bullet and buy a new one.
