Anyone know of free sources for "World" records? I only have the basic US edition of Ancestry.com, and there's a record for my Grandpa's marriage to his second wife...only they got married in Australia and I can't access it.

I'm not asking for anything illegal, just wondered if Australia has an open online database? I know the Danish and Nowegian birth/marriage/death records that I can't access on Ancestry are available for free on those countries websites for such data.

Wow, I didn't know that those records were free, and I've been paying for the world membership on Ancestry.com. I've not been thrilled with the results. On the other hand, free records do me no good if they're in the native tongue which isn't english :)

Jill, you can find ALMOST anything online, Ancestry makes it easier, to be sure.

The Danish and Norweigian records are actually fairly easy to navigate, even with the language barrier. If you have a name and even just a rough date, you can usually find what you need. From there, it only takes a little bit of study to figure out what the rest of it says, OR you can ask in the forums that are connected to the record sites.

Try an LDS Family History in your area. There is also familysearch.org

Yes, LDS aka Mormons have a huge resource base that they share willingly.

Also, Genealogical Societies in specific areas are a good contact.

I believe Ancestory.com is run by the LDS church. It seems like I traced it back to them once.
