I tried this and had difficulty when I finished it. Thought it should be tacked in the middle and when I did, it bunched and didn't work like I thought it would. Used minke on both sides. Consequently, I spent quite a bit of money and it's still at my house because I didn't think it was nice enough to give away. Disappointing.

Thought the same thing when I watched the you tube. Why not just one layer hemmed all around like the store bought ones (only out of really cute baby flannel fabric available?)

Make her some burp cloths and then send a gift card so she can buy diapers and wipes.

how about a small tooth fairy pillow with the name on it. It's something usable, and different, small and personalized too.

[QUOTE=osewme;7759550]I like to make burp cloths for new moms. I take a cloth diaper (the pre-folded) ones & sew flannel on one side. I sew the flannel on (wrong side out) all along the edges & leave about a 6" open area so I can turn it right side out. Then I sew down the center seams on the diaper to hold the flannel to the diaper. They are easy & so useful. I can still find cloth diapers at some Walmart stores.

Here's a good tutorial:
https://sewshesews.wordpress.com/200...loth-tutorial/

since you mentioned cloth diapers: do you know they make the absolute best glass/window cleaning rags? I was hoarding the last two from my kids (they're in their high 40's) and I found a shoe box full of them at a church rummage sale. Man, was I excited! I gave one to son in law, cuz he's the window washer in their house. He went to Walmart and bought a dozen.

Can she use American gift cards in Germany?

the burp cloth doesn't cost too much to make or to send.
I live on Long island, and the teachers here make 100,000 after 3-4 years.
their retirement is excellent too. Maybe those teachers should move here.
their salaries are fantastic, and when they complain, I just don't get it.
WOW!! My daughter got her Masters degree at Columbia and taught for
a couple years at Geo. Washington and didn't make even half that amount!
She has been teaching for 17 years here in California and makes less than 50K.
She works a second job teaching a class at a nearby university at night to make a bit more.

WOW As a retired teacher (8 states) I can't imagine making anything close to that amount. But I guess the cost of living there is high too.
