I, too, am a retired (11 yrs ago) teacher (jr. h, h.s.; time out to have children; adj. prof.; full time h.s. for 25 more years... just shy of 40 yrs altogether teaching chem, physics, AP calculus and AP computer programming). I left with a M.S. + 132 credits (what can I say, I was a schoolaholic) at the top of the scale which was only in the low $80s in southern NJ - supposedly a great salary. Long story short, I could have started with IBM at straight out of college earning 3 times my teaching salary, but I was put on this earth to teach. With me it was/is a calling - money isn't everything, but it sure helps pay the bills. What do I do now? I teach at workshops for my guild and anyone who needs help learning a new sewing skill.
