Question gift idea

A dear, and much younger, friend is having a baby girl in April. I want to send her something handmade, but here are the circumstances: this is the second child so she has the basics, she is a home-economics teacher so knows sewing, she lives in Germany so must be easy to send, and I'm not made of money (retired teacher) so cannot spend too much. Any thought would be most appreciated.

Jenny Doan does a demo on a self bound receiving blanket, that would be nice and light to mail.

The self- binding blanket is great. I made out of flannel. Quick and easy.

I like to make burp cloths for new moms. I take a cloth diaper (the pre-folded) ones & sew flannel on one side. I sew the flannel on (wrong side out) all along the edges & leave about a 6" open area so I can turn it right side out. Then I sew down the center seams on the diaper to hold the flannel to the diaper. They are easy & so useful. I can still find cloth diapers at some Walmart stores.

Here's a good tutorial:

The burp cloths are nice with flannel on the back so they stay on the shoulder. If you google burp cloths you can find some cute sayings that you can put on the them if you have an embroidery machine. One fun one is, " spit happens". Do some in masculine colours so Dad isn't embarassed to use them.

I just made a bib that is for a boy but the pattern is for girls. The picture is on chit chat on this board. They are very different and cute.

saw those bibs, and they are adorable.
the burp cloth doesn't cost too much to make or to send.
I live on Long island, and the teachers here make 100,000 after 3-4 years.
their retirement is excellent too. Maybe those teachers should move here.
their salaries are fantastic, and when they complain, I just don't get it.
