Default Someone asked how to save posts with pictures

I've been wanting to post about this and since someone in one of the threads asked about it today, I guess now is the time. They wanted to save the whole post, text and pic. You can always copy and paste into a Word document but there's a better way....IF you use Firefox. There's an add-on called Abduction that lets you highlight what you want to save and then save it on your computer. It saves as a .png but you can then open it in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (same thing you open jpgs in) and save it as a jpg and print it out if and when you want to. The home site is:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ction/?src=api

There's probably something similar for IE but I don't use it so can't help there. I really like this one and use it every day!

Print Friendly is another tool I love. Sally....posted it on Treadleon awhile back and I think she may have learned about it here...not sure tho. site is:

    http://www.printfriendly.com/

You can add a button/link to your browser....IE and FF and when you want to save a web page, just click on the link and it creates a pdf to download. You can delete parts of the page you don't want. You'll notice this on a lot of web pages, e.g. some blogs etc......even my bank uses it!

There's also a program (free) called "CutePDF" which works like a printer, only when you go to print the message or page, you select CutePDF and it prompts you for a file name and saves the page in PDF format. Works great for saving quilt patterns, too!

If you're using Google Chrome (web browser, just like Internet Explorer or Firefox, etc., are), you just right click on the page you want to save. On the drop down menu that appears, choose "Print." Then, under "Destination," instead of choosing your printer, choose "change." Then choose "Save as PDF."

Many Windows based computers come with Snipping Tool, which is pretty handy for capturing parts of any screen. Whatever you capture goes immediately to your clipboard, from which you can paste into the Paint program or a rich text document, type in notes to yourself that include information about whose work it was and the url where you found it.

If you are careful to include memorable keywords (in a document - not an image file), it means that you should be able to pull it up quickly from your computer by using the search function. It sure beats any paper filing system.
