I got solid surface (Corian) about 4 months ago and just LOVE it. It has the sink molded in and no edge for dirt to get around. I would highly recommend it. Lowes installed it and we were more than happy with them, very efficient, cleaned every thing up and were quick.

I love the good old fashioned soapstone. It is expensive but you can't beat it for durability and it never wears out and always looks good from the purist country style to the uber- modern.
I also love the new concrete. It can look so amazing.
I don't see all the fuss about "must have granite". it absorbs every stain and discolors from everything, and you are afraid of it. Not very enjoyable in my book.

Not sure what my counter top is, but have to clean it with solid stone cleaner. It is black so shows everything. It is beautiful, but have to use the cleaner and micro-cloth so it doesn't streak. If you really like to do housework, it would be fine, but I have many other things I would rather do. The bathroom has the same top, but in "mottled" brown so does not streak. Have S.S. sinks ( in kitchen) and really like them. They are deep so can fit about any size pan in them.
