I just saw one of those organizers that you put under your sewing machine to keep all your most used tools handy right in front of you. Since that has a "tail" that goes under the machine some velcro or snaps on the tail could hold it onto the bed rail and if you lengthened it a little more it could double as a chair organizer when he gets home and has to sit a lot or even put the tail between matress and springs to use when he is at home in bed. Just a thought since I saw your post before I saw the other item in another blog.
