How Do You Clean Your Wood/Tile Floors?
DH just told me he wants to buy a Shark Pro Steamer for cleaning floors. He thinks this will do a better job than the special cleaners by Bona. I'm leery because we had a steam cleaner before. I just kept think when I used it before that it was just plain water without a cleaner and is that really that clean, just using water? We have a dog who brings in dirt all the time and I get his point. But…..I'm just not sure. DH is a toy boy….he likes all these "contraptions" as I call them. I'm a basics person, I clean with vinegar and water for the tile floors and Bona for the wood floors.

I would not use steam clean on our solid wooden cross cut white oak floors. We just vacuum and use water with a tiny squirt of dish detergent and or plain vinegar. We then damp clean with an old towel. I have a dog too, a parrot and parakeets plus lots of kids.

Real wood floors? Don't use a steamer. It can raise the grain of the wood.
I use Bona, have for years and years and I love it. It works fantastically and doesn't gum up the floors. All wood floors or tile here. 3 cats, the rodent crew and me here. Floors can get dirty, but not too bad.

DH was with a wood coatings group for years supplying a major wood floor company with coatings. He says the two biggest "killers" of wood flooring are sunlight (direct and indirect) AND WATER! Tile can be cleaned in a number of ways but your simple cleaning is just fine. If your hubby wants to steam, let him go for it! The wood flooring just needs a vac/sweep and then Bona it.

Do those of you who use Bona cleaner also use the Bona floor polish? I have some, but hesitated to use it in case it makes the floor too slippery. I would like to shine up my floors, but don't want to slip and break a leg!!!
I should add I have a steam cleaner and love it for bathrooms; however, I would not dare use it on our wood floors. It works well for cleaning tile and grout.
