Default knitting and crocheting

I have just started both...have not made a thing yet just the stitches. I just found this knitting and crocheting board that is very good. http://www.ravelry.com - sharing...I am hoping to get good enough to do a simple scraf and maybe a pair of socks. LOL

Try starting with a dish cloth. You can practice stitches, and if it's not perfect, it's still useful. A small project that's fairly quick to finish, too. Hope you have fun with it!

My sil taught me by making a pair of argyle socks. I knitted one inch and she ripped out two. She said I would cry and vow never to speak to her again, but that I would be able to knit anything after that experience. She was right. Although after all these years I do have directions that I don't understand. Perhaps someone on that board will. Thanks for the site. My advice: DON'T start with argyle socks. A scarf or dishcloths were excellent suggestions.

Carol, I have been looking for a class on knitting and like you, just want to get good enough to make scarves, etc., nothing fancy. I learned to knit as a kid and know the basic stitches, but never learned to increase or decrease. Good luck with your knitting and let me know how you are doing. Lucy

I've been trying to learn how to knit but am having trouble. I can crochet with no problem but can't seem to get coordinated enough to use two needles. Ever see those Mr Bean shows? Picture him trying to knit and that's me.

I've been crocheting since I was in 5th grade. I learned from a classmate. I can read patterns and have made a lot of afghans, scarves and booties but never any clothing. Right now I'm working on crocheting mittens for my grandchildren. The only thing hard about it is guessing the size since they will be Christmas gifts. I also learned to knit at the same time but never really got into it until a few years ago. Now I knit dishcloths and scarves. I haven't ventured out to things that require a lot of concentration...

Crochet is my passion. After you learn the basic stitches and how to read a pattern, and get comfortable with tension, you can make anything.
