Put a dry paper towel in any bag you store veggies in your crisper drawer. It absorbs excess moisture and keeps them fresher longer. In a small bag I tear a smaller piece of the towel.

A metal knife will turn the leaves brown. Use a plastic lettuce knife. Usually a couple of dollars and it works for cabbage too. I keep mine in a large ziplock with a dry paper towel in the bottom.

I'm on a mission....will hit all the resale/antique in area...and there are a lot! Maybe will find my greenie......

I have spinners(2-1 small 1 large). Use them a lot for not only lettuce leaves, but spinach, kale. Swiss chard...and some here use to spin-dry precuts!

I love really crisp lettuce and took a clue from a hotel with the best salad bar in town. After tearing the lettuce for a salad they put it in water with lots of ice and refrigerated 30 min or so before serving. Works great!

Here is a trick I learned eons ago....does anyone do this before putting lettuce away? take the lettuce stemside down and give it a good bang on the countertop. This will loosen the whole stem system, you can then pull out the stem and there will be a hole in the bottom of the lettuce. Now store it away in your preferred manner, losing the stem helps keep the lettuce fresh for a longer time.

I wrap Romane with DRY paper towel and it keeps well, Can't eat much lettuce because of my teeth, which are becoming fewer the older I get.

some salad bars spray their greens with a sulfite and water mix to keep them crisp and good looking. I'm allergic to sulfite, so I get stomach pains.

Oh I'm so sorry. Be sure and get your teeth replaced. Bad dental will lead to all manner of ailments some because of poor nutrition. Also lost teeth will mean bone lose too. Not a good thing.
