My second post today as I record the history of treasures from my mom.

We had an estate sale a few years ago when my mom sold her house and moved in with me. There were probably 100 crocheted doilies! As a young woman, she had been ill for much of a year during the 1940s, crocheting was something that she could do during lonely days and nights when there was no television. :)

I kept a few of my favorites which brings us to the crocheted cat. I saved it as I wanted to give it to a childhood friend of mine who "adopted" mom and took her shopping, etc.-- filling in for me as I was living too far away to do these things. Since I have no siblings, she has become my "sister."

I decided I wanted to mount the crocheted piece but didn't have a clue how to do it till a clerk at Joann's told me the "secret". Just use an awl or office pushpin to make holes in the mat that use needle and thread going up and down through the holes to hold the piece in place. I used mat that has a velour-like finish which really adds a nice extra-touch.

I was so pleased with the result that I mounted a second piece for myself. The heart was from another childhood friend who knows I like hearts.

Now I'm going to go back through the collection of doilies that I kept from mom and see if there is one I want to mount for myself.

That cat is absolutely darling. What a great idea to frame them. I love to crochet and filet crochet especially. Thank you for sharing this.
