I did this with the kids many years ago....but I had to melt the crayons to use the candy molds....I think I will look at Salvation Army or resale shop for a pan. This is much easier.
For melting the crayons...use a tin can, works well. Put it into boiling water in pan and just melted right down.

Thank you so much for the directions to make these. I found your idea just in time for Valentine's Day.
Made some heart shaped crayons with my younger son this afternoon. We took broken crayons and melted them in heart and flower shaped molds. My son will give this to classmates as valentines day gifts. Cheaper and nicer than the paper valentines I normally do and the crayons change colors as they continue to write.

That's cute! What a nice idea.
When I first read the post title it made me think of something I used to do as a kid. My parents were not thrilled, but we had the most colorful RADIATOR in all of Massachusetts.

When my kids were little I did this with them. We just used (had) the regular muffin circles. the neat thing about putting them is the tin and melting that way is as stated by hopetoquilt, when the kids color with them the color will change as it goes from one crayon to the next. Its a great way to use the broken and worn crayons from the previous school year during the summer-cause they all want a new box of crayons for the first day of school.;-)
