Need ideas please

My small quilt group wants to do a round robin (6 of us) and I would love to think of something different other than just a regular block for the start.
Some of my ideas was to use a basket and let then fill it with whatever, a center "village" square so they can build around it?
Would love to hear any other ideas.

Location: Piedmont Virginia in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns.

One year my bee learned a 'new way' to make flying geese. We decided we'd each make 80 of these geese and trade with each other. From the swapped geese, we each had to make our own center in any style/block we wanted (each of us had 80 final geese).
These were returned to the next meeting in a plain brown grocery sack with our assigned number printed on it. Each person picked up a sack without their own number to work on for the next month. When we met the following month, we again picked up a sack that didn't have our number on it.
We were allowed to do anything to the quilt in that sack, even cut it up and sew it back together, no "owner" requests honored if we didn't want to! This way of working was incredibly freeing!
We did this for 10 long months!! NO ONE got to see the quilts in progress during this time except as they were working on that month's project. We kept a jounal in each sack so that the quilter could tell the story of their month's addition.
At the end of the 10 months we held a pot luck dinner at which we unveiled each quilt and read the journals. It was absolutely astounding how totally different each quilt was, and the level of work in each, as we all pushed ourselves to learn something new and do our best work. It was the best round robin I've ever participated in!!

It's in the UFO pile somewhere. Ended up a large quilt and I never did get around to FMQ it. I don't have a camera to photo it; got to remedy that situation!
