A couple of weeks ago, the local VW nuts did our winter campout called, the Dead of Winter. DH and I usually get up there Thur nite as we are retired and it's a fun getaway. It's also usually warm enough in the bus because the campsites have electricity and those cube heaters are just fine. We kept the bus at about 65 plus or minus.

Well, so we get set up and crack open the camping chairs, light a really nice fire and settle in to relax. We both hear this incredible squeaky MEAOW from the campsite across from us. Out pops this large ginger tom! We both expected a very small undernourished feral, but no. He is almost 14 lbs and was pure tom.

So we had lost our last kitty 6 months ago and had decided to stay cat free for our summer trip to Alaska (still in the planning stage-it's a long drive from Atlanta, Ga to Alaska!). But this tom came over and we knew right away he was no feral. He was loving and cuddly and loved to rub face with us. He even sat in my lap while I was in the camp chair in front of the fire. I go rooting around to see what we've got to feed him and we've got 2 cans of tuna and other human food. We gave him 1/3 of a can of tuna to make sure he wouldn't just bolt it and barf it back up-he didn't. Then we mixed up some cheddar cheese and crackers. He liked that too.

So we called the ranger office and they said some one had dumped him about 3 months ago. One of the rangers stopped off to chat and I asked him if he could get us some cat food, which he sweetly did, driving to the first quick mart outside the property. It was a win-win for him, he said the cat had been tearing up the garbage bags. It also looked like he'd been tearing up some of the other wild life too. One ear is bent back, he had huge scabs and open sores and we later removed 2 ticks, yuck.

We had a litter box and litter delivered Sat by way of the other campers and took him home with us Sun. He had an accident on the van seat on the way home, but too late we realized that altho he was the cuddliest bunny in the bunch, he'd never used a box! Anyway, we made it home, he went to the vet, he now uses the litterbox, doesn't seem too anxious to go back outside, he's now an it, he needs to go back for stitches removal, re-worming, booster shots...and I am proud to introduce you to our Sugar Ray!

Ark, that is our old cat Ollie. I can't seem to get Ray's picture up. OK, got Ray's picture in, he's almost as contented as Ollie, my avatar.

You know we couldn't figure out why anyone would dump this big bunch of love, either. He knew cuddle right away, he slept cuddled up to one or the other of us all night long and still comes into bed with us each night.
