I would either wear a camisole underneath or get some non-fusible tricot fabric and tack it onto the wrong side by hand, going through the existing embroidery stitches. Chances are you could hand sew to the stitches on the underside; wouldn't even need to go through to the right side. Tricot doesn't ravel, so afterwards you could simply trim the tricot around your hand stitching. To get the tricot to lay flat as you work, I would use some basting spray or Elmer's white washable school glue to secure the tricot before starting to hand sew. The hand sewing would go faster than you might think since you don't have to worry about making the stitches neat or even. A single thread would be enough; just knot every few inches in case you get a break later.

There is a product called Cloud Cover that is suggested to be used when doing machine embroidery on baby's clothes. It is a low temperature iron-on. I have bought some but have not used it yet. My DD asked me to embroider some onesies for her friend's new babies and I found the product recommended on the internet. I understand Sulky makes a similar product but it goes by a different name.

It should be easy to hand stitch a piece of something soft like tricot to the edge of the neckline and along the sleeve seams. The bottom could be free hanging.

There is an iron on backing by Sulky called Tender Touch, similar to Cloud Cover. I use it all the time on the back of machine embroidery. I buy it in the notions section at Joann.
