Default Not quilting but sewing related help - interfacing question

I have a sweater set and on the pull over sweater (soft knit) there is a pretty flower design sewn to it. The inside is so rough against my skin that I can not wear it unless I wear something under it - which I don't want to being I like to wear the sweater/jacket with it. Can someone tell me what kind of interfacing or whatever else I could use to cover this. Obviously I don't want to sew something over it and have the seam showing on the outside.

Thanks for any ideas.

You can use a feather weight knit iron on stabilizer, however, you would have to be very careful as to how you apply it. Since the garment is a knit, an iron on is going to affect the drape. First you would want to make sure the knit of the stabilizer is going in the same direction as the knit of the sweater. Then, rather than cutting a single piece to cover the entire area, I would cut pieces that are just slightly bigger than the individual motifs. I really would hesitate on this and probably just get a pretty camisole instead.

Could you just appliqué a piece of soft fabric over(under) it by hand?

Get a tricot fusible. It will feel like a slip next to the skin.

I thought of that but then I would have the stitches showing on the outside.

Thank you. I will have to look thru my tote with fusibles and see if I might have some of that.

I can't remember the name but there is actually a stabilizer that is made for this. check rnkdistributing.com in their workbook and it should lis it. For this emb design I would have used a topping and there is a mesh that I use under t-shirts etc that holds it really well. I'll try and see if I can find the actual name for the one that covers emb designs to protect the skin

I have the same thing with a cheapy top I love to wear and bought at Walmart. I placed a thin pink cotton (the top is red and white stripe) and the top on an embroidery hoop. I used embroidery floss (1 strand), you can use neutral or thread color of choice and just stitched the fabric to the top. I used the hoop because it was easier to handle both pieces. The top is stretchy so I only did few stitches in different areas. I could hide the stitches in between the stitches that were already there. When finished I just cut away the unwanted fabric.

You could do it like this but use an embroidery hoop to manage placement of the stitches.

If you didn't want to fuse something, perhaps 'line' the piece with a full size piece of tricot? Hem top/bottom of the tricot and machine stitch to the side seams???
