I have the same thing with a cheapy top I love to wear and bought at Walmart. I placed a thin pink cotton (the top is red and white stripe) and the top on an embroidery hoop. I used embroidery floss (1 strand), you can use neutral or thread color of choice and just stitched the fabric to the top. I used the hoop because it was easier to handle both pieces. The top is stretchy so I only did few stitches in different areas. I could hide the stitches in between the stitches that were already there. When finished I just cut away the unwanted fabric.
