Default 2-1/2" styrofoam balls - any ideas for christmas ornaments using fabric?

while cleaning out and reorganizing my sewing/craft room I cam across a bunch of styrofoam balls that have glitter and christmas scenes on theme. Any ideas on how to recycle them for christmas ornaments using fabric? I have seen the folded star ornaments but they all seem to take 3 inch styrofam balls and these are smaller.

I have made the folded star ornaments with the smaller sized balls and they worked just fabulous. If I remember correctly, I just used two inch squares and fiddled with layout until it fit nicely. Sorry, it has been so long I can not remember specifics. Another thing that is fun to do with the balls is just cut scraps and hot glue gun some ribbons and beads and imagination.

Last year I made some ornaments in crazy patch style gluing fabric to the ball.

I have seen some that look really homely and pathetic and then some that look like they were made by extemely talented artists. I think the difference was entirely the choice of fabric. Try using velvets, satins or mylars for your balls and covering the seams with strings of pearls or beads.

Have you looked up "Japanese Kimekomi ?" I have a book by Suess and Hewitt on this fabric art form and the designs, which are based on quilting patterns, are exquisite! Good Luck!
