I am trying to print this robot template-it prints approx 1/8" too small.....not a big deal, but I am soooo computer challenged! any ideas? Also, the original quilt was sewn with just raw edges on the pieces-I am concerned this will fray terribly when machine washed/dried. Will be a lot of work to turn under all the edges and then machine stitch, so do you think this will stand the abuse of a toddler??

Not sure about how it will hold up since I am just getting into applique. As for it printing to small. Have you checked out your printer to make sure it is set to print at 100% original size? I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. Trying to print/copy things and it was set to print at 95% of the original size. Needless to say, it threw me off big time. Kind of like what is happen to you.

As for the fraying, that's the idea.
After you're all done quilting, wash and dry it a few times and the sides of those pieces with fray and curl up, sort of like a rag quilt.
Make sure to clean your lint trap out - although I doubt it will be as bad as a regular rag quilt.

After a few washes, it should be all frayed out and ready for use.
I would not, however, give it to a newborn to use.

Shorten your stitch a bit when sewing the pieces down.

If you wanted to - sure, you could needleturn applique the pieces by hand.
Or machine applique them down (with or without fusible).
Depending on the technique you use, you'd have to add the seam allowances on when you cut out the shapes.

Both would be much more labor intensive, and with different looks.

As for the size of the shapes not printing correctly, if you can't get your printer to do it correctly, cut them out a bit on the outside of the lines.

That looks to be a very forgiving pattern.

I'd also start with a bit bigger background squares that can be trimmed down to size after all the robot pieces are constructed and attached.

I LOVE that pattern.

Make sure your print set-up is set as ...'page scaling, NONE' and/or there is no check in a box that says 'fit picture to frame'.

If you are on the picture, and hold down you Ctrl key on the left of the keyboard..and at the same time roll the wheel of your mouse, you will enlarge the picture. Once you choose print, preview the picture and see if it's large enough. If not, follow these steps again, Ctrl, and roll the mouse wheel.

Thank you for all this information! I agree-the frayed edges will look cute, so I will quit worrying! And great tip to use a smaller stitch length. Hope to have this ready for Christmas........wish me luck! :-)
