Default pre-

prewashing
precuts
pretreating

Due to the fact that I sometimes have a very literal mind - the "pre" in front of all these words seems silly to me.

For prewashing - "washing before cutting" makes sense to me.
Otherwise - prewashing is getting the item dirty, or treating for stains before the item goes into the wash water.

For precuts - precutting - sharpen the blades? get new dies for die cutter machine? mark the lines? measure?

pretreating - diagnose the problem?

Anyone else with anything else?

How about "unretouched" as in photographs for face creams. "Use this cream and look like our model in this unretouched photo." What????

Whenever I see the term Self Storage, I think of people storing themselves .

How do you RE-new?
What about REgurgitate? Is swallowing gurgitating then??
When we return something -- an old building? -- to its original state, how is it that we REstore it if it wasn't a store/shop in the first place?
And having just watched Say Yes to the Dress, how can we REnew a vow? Isn't a vow "written in stone," as it were, and therefore always 'permanent' when it's first made? Why don't we call this a REpeat then?

Precuts are pieces of fabric that have already been cut into a certain shape. Think fat quarters, layer cakes, charms, honey buns, jelly rolls, etc.

I made my student rip out six rows of knitting and redo it.

My mother always told me not to say that I enjoyed myself after a party or meal. She said that it wasn't "yourself" that you enjoyed, but the occasion or other people.

Or commercials that state, "real people, not actors." Actors aren't real people?
