A friend of mines' daughter lives in Washington, IL. Her house blew away! That area was hit the hardest! We lost some metal roofing that was already peeling off of an old corn bin ....i saw it flying toward me way as I was frantically trying to get my car into the detached garage and the huge sliding door on our pole barn is now on the ground. It was fine as I was pulling in....then all hell broke loose! I was never so scared in my life. I swear I saw the witch on the bicycle fly by! The wind (tornado-light?) was incredible! I held onto my steering wheel so tight as I raced to get home from church. Heart beating! Never want to go thru that again! Living in the prairie is always an adventure!

Watching the news on the damage this morning. Hope all our members are safe!

We are still here - high winds, heavy rains, some flooding in the yard and breeze way plus it's roof leaked a little. Everything is ok now though - now to fix the roof.

Bless you all!

here in Indiana spent some time in the basement & lost power for a couple of hours but no damage to house & no trees in the yard came down, but think some trees back in the woods fell. Maybe will take a tractor ride later & see - hope not the trees with the deer stands in them - lol. We count ourselves blessed, as others have lost everything.

I live in Morris- the sirens went off 2 times. Was at my sisters house and saw shingles, big pieces of roofing paper in the wind going over us. Went to basement at nephews house. Got home and all ok.

that was horrible. I hope everyone is safe!! (why do they call it Midwest States by the way?) my geography lessons say otherwise. it's confusing.

We live on a high hill. I haven't heard of a tornado in this area. We had high winds, a little rain. No damage. A few miles away there was damage. I don't think any one hurt or killed, just downed trees and damaged houses.
Illinois and all flat lands are in danger any time there are storms.
Midwest is in the middle of the United States. My only explanation and what I've always heard. I don't know who came up with that term or when.

We didn't lose any trees but my DH is helping to get some cleared away. Lots of big trees went down around here.
