I received an e-mail today from 'pay pal'. It looked very official. It said that there was suspicion of someone using my account. It wanted me to use a link included in the e-mail to 'restore' my account and then make sure everything was correct (personal information wise) then it would be sent to the place that would resolve the issue. I immediately found it suspicious. I checked my paypal account by logging into paypal not the e-mail link. I then checked my bank account. Neither had any purchases listed. It was a PHISHING SCAM and I flagged as so in my e-mail.

That happened to me a lot about 5 years ago. So I closed my account with Paypal...

Whenever you see one of those that doesn't have your name on it it's a fake.
I get them now and then but they turn up in my spam. I really like Gmail!! |
I had the same thing happen yesterday. I called paypal and they had me forward it to spoof. I then had to change my password. I thought it was the real thing but it said I reported an un autorized purchase which I didn't so I knew something was up. The e-mail had the last 4 # of my master card credit card and the expiration date. They asked for the entire # to verify my account. It was a good thing I called instead of giving them the info.
Oh and it did have my first and last name. |

Magnolia - good for you for doing exactly the right thing - being cautious, going to your accounts NOT using the email but by going there using your own bookmark or typing in the web address.
These Phishes work by trying to scare you - into doing something you normally wouldn't. It's "social engineering". Delete these emails, always access your accounts by getting there on your own (not clicking on email links). "Deals" that are too good to be true, usually are. Keep your radar up, "let's be careful out there"! |
