i have a copy, and have made the coat, and loved it for my mom, but am a coward, has anyone else made one? i always have this fear of cutting, that i might ruin something, so often i have only half finished projects, and many of those (don't ask), the book is called beyond the bog coat by linda halpin, the original concept was for weavers, she added too, i believe what she does is beautiful, let me know

Jan,
I made a bog coat a long time ago. I had forgotten all about it till I read you post. My advice to you is jump in and go for it. My motto is "Done is better than perfect!" We are all much too critical of ourselves. Relax and enjoy the process. It really is fun!

Please explain "bog coat"??

I agree with Jan. My mother used to say "If it's worth doing it's worth doing right" I have disregarded this saying and as a result my UFO's are almost extinct - go for it!

it is an old coat, like way way back when , in virginia averys book, "wonderful wearables" she states that it is from denmark, around 1000bc, it is constructed out of one piece of fabric, (so worked for animal skins) , i really do not know how to explain it, but it is wonderful for fabrics, i have made them out of solid fabrics, but now i want to get "creative", they are cool coats, swingy and fun, almost an open palette for your imagination, i can talk, just not do, i will send you the ibn# or will try to write directions if i can, but you would have fun, it is basically a basic rectangle and it takes its shape when you cut and fold. now mind you, i have never gotten to creative with it, but i have made one out of felted wool, and it is really fun, and with felted wool, no finished edges, love that.
sorry to bother you

A Bog Coat is made from two fabrics (Quilting cottons) which make a reversible jacket. Basically you start with a large rectangle and you cut in part way from each side to form the sleeves. There are lots of ways to embellish the jacket. I Googled it and the pictures were lousy.

the book is great, i went on amazon to look for it if someone was interested, just so i could pass on the info, but could not find it, but i am not an amazon person so i might have not done it correctly, i would doubt it is out of print, it may be available on the threads website, or interweave, i do not know, my copy is from 1993, but i do have the isbn # and the publishers address in pa, if anyone wants it
