make sure it is juice and not "cocktail" - most cranberry products have a lot of sugar (high fructose corn syrup) in them.

Oops! It is cocktail! Oh well! Drinking like a fish!

It should be 100% juice with no sugar added. There are brands out there that sweeten the taste with a bit of apple juice mixed so that it is not so sour (instead of sugar, which only makes matters worse). Also, you can take cranberry pills - all natural. But, the problem with these things is that, once you have a UTI, they really will not help much at all. Lots of water actually helps to flush the urethra and makes it a tiny bit less painful to go to the bathroom. Outside of that, the best thing is to get in to see the doctor as soon as possible. They can even give you medication not only for the UTI but something that actually lessens the pain in that area. Though it will discolor your urine. loll. But hey, it helps.

No that's cranberry juice drink. Cranberry juice is a wonderful preventative but apple cider vinegar (1-2 tablespoons 4-5 tImes a day in apple or other NON citrus juice) works wonders.

I had quite forgotten about apple cider vinegar. It is very good for your health even without an infection. But, still, it would really depend on how bad the infection has set in. It can cause kidney problems. Pain in the kidney areas or a fever ... if you have any of those symptoms, do not even waste time with trying a home remedy, you need to get seen by a doctor quickly.

How about lemons? They are acidic and that is what cranberry juice is. I have a friend that was told to eat one lemon per day and it would keep the kidney stones away. Same principal, keep the urine acidic and the bacteria can't tolerate that environment.

All of the obove and I would add you can get a product at walmart or any pharmcay called AZO but you can get the generic like walmart brand. It works wonders and it is for the pain. My daughter bought the generic at dollar general it is about 3 dollars. Hope you feel better. Marilyn

You can also get AZO Standard over the counter...
•Provides fast, maximum strength OTC relief of urinary pain, burning, urgency and frequency.

you can but cranbury capsules at walmart. I had bladder suegery Friday and it sure is helping me.

Cranberry juice, the highest concentration you can get. Actually there's an anti-spasmodic for the bladder which turns the urine bright orange which will give pain relief but not cure the infection. It's over-the-counter. Pyridium, Azo-Standard, Uromide are trade names. The chemical short name is phenazopyridine hydrochloride. Not advising or prescribing for you, just saying it exists OTC.
