Just wondering if anyone else, besides me, hates the taste of pepper. I never use it and hate to eat food from anyone else or a restaurant that uses it. If there is pepper on food, that's all I can taste. Friends are always telling me there is so little in something that I won't even taste it, but I always do. Am I the only one? Please tell me that I'm not.

I also can't eat peppers (the vegetable) - does terrible things to my digestion. |
I am not a big fan of pepper neither. My husband loves pepper and when he cooks you can tell!!!! I can live without it!!
I'm not a big fan of it either. My brothers all use tons of it...so much you can't see the food. Yuk! LOL I don't use much salt either.
Did you know that pepper used to be so expensive it cost more than its weight in gold? I'm glad that is no longer the case because I love it- Indian food yum yum. (I don't like the pre- milled pepper though- too dusty or something)
If you dont like, just dont have it- everyone has their own taste and I am happy to eat your share! |
Some foods have to have salt, some salt and pepper or they don't taste as good to me LOL Others? I can go either way :D:D:D
I'm not a pepper fan either.
Iam like that with pepper also the only time I like it is when I have tomato on a cracker Iam like it with salt to a little is OK but if there is to much it burns my tongue
I like pepper of all kinds. Most foods are too bland for me so I cook with lots of spices too.We all have different taste buds......
I don't use salt or pepper when I cook
I am not fond of pepper either and I can always taste it in my food about every time..
I like pepper in my food but don't use salt. Can't eat food that has been salted.
No, I like fresh ground pepper from my pepper mill.
I don't use pepper, it's only there for my husband and son in law. What is it with men? My sister thinks it shouldn't even be sold.

MIL hates pepper though so I pull her portions out before adding pepper for us. |
I prefer pepper over salt and use it quite frequently! It gives food a boost in flavor...JMHO!
I like pepper on my food, use it before I use salt. DH doesn't like pepper and I make sure I underseason the food when I cook, salt and pepper alike. I add pepper to my taste when the food is on my dish. Limit my salt because of HBP but DH piles it on even before he tastes his food. For a person who doesn't like pepper or spicy foods he is always suggesting that we eat at Mexican restaurants, go figure. Of course, he often can't eat his Mexican food and 'cools' his tongue with lots of sour cream and cold drinks.
Ohhhhh nooooooo....Gotta have my pepper....Love it on watermelon and cataloupe too...:)
Oh, I love pepper! Not too much, but I certainly use it a good bit. I can't remember the last time I had to buy salt, but I certainly have to replenish the peppermill frequently!
Pepper's fine for me, but I hate hate hate fennel. I can taste the tiniest amount of it and I don't like it one little bit. Blech. Fiance loves it, but has stopped trying to sneak it in when he cooks dinner, because I always know. ;)
Also, I can't tolerate capsaicin (the stuff that makes hot peppers hot), but horseradish spice doesn't bother me. Weird. |
I don't care for anything that is hot. Burns my tongue. Now my hubby is the complete opposite. Even the smell of his plate makes my eyes water. Any red food (goulash, spagetti sloppy joes) he drounds it with tobasco! YUCK! But he likes it.

Watch out! You might be on your way to becoming allergic to black pepper. This is how I started. I am most likely actually allergic to the fungus that grows on the outside shell of the black pepper. Think IBS, shaking, cramping and profuse cold sweat. I can not eat antyhing unless I make it. I can not eat anything that has touched food that has balck pepper or been fried in the same oil. I do believe black pepper use has been on the upswing. It used to be offered at the table freshly ground in restaurants but now it is normally already added. Anything labeled with spice in the store I need to avoid because that usually means pepper. I can handle some hot sauce etc. I am not allergic to spicy food just black pepper.

I noticed that too especially with men cooks. Many seem to pride themselves on how much pepper they can put on it. It is imposible to take off. Let people season and salt their own.

I love pepper, black, white, red..doesn't matter, but I'm spare with salt. =My DH took me to a wonderful tapas restaurant a couple of days ago and the food was so salty it took away from the overall yumminess of the meal. I'd never had beef and octopus so tender that it melted.
Like pepper but it doesn't like me Gives me heartburn very bad.
Pepper is my favorite. I eat pepper on everthing. Even if it is only the lowwly baloney sandwich with tomatoe. LOL
I love pepper. My sister (who used to have no problem using it) cannot have too much of it nowadays as it triggers some kind of allergic reaction to it.
I like pepper and most all spices.
I like pepper, but no salt. DH loves adding tons of salt when he cooks, and I usually wind up eating about 1 forkful. Don't like salt at all.
(I don't like the pre- milled pepper though- too dusty or something)
------------------------------------------- I like it as a taste additive. And I agree with you that I don't like the pre-milled black peppers after reading many years ago the amount of rat hairs and rat feces allowed in commercially sold black peppers!!! |
Love black pepper and use lots of it but only freshly ground. I find it to be essential in Ceasar Salad and homemade alfredo sauce.
oh my, don't come over my house. i don't use salt but do use pepper- a lot.
I use to never eat anything that had ground black pepper on it. But surprise! I tasted fresh ground pepper straight from a pepper mill and it was wonderful! Nothing like the ground pepper in a box. Fresh ground black pepper is not hot but full of flavor. All my childhood nothing on the table but ground black pepper in a shaker. That's all I thought pepper was. I made sure my kids knew the difference. We all love fresh ground pepper.
Same with salt. I won't use iodized table salt. I use Himalayan Pink salt or Celtic sea salt. This salt has all the trace minerals and does not taste salty. Hard to explain but the salt taste is not bitter salty salt like regular table salt. Even if you over salt. It has flavor but not the salty taste. I use Kosher salt for big salt jobs like pots of soups or beans. |
i love pepper, in all varieties, white, pink, green, red and the traditional black, i do only use fresh ground but with a cheese omelet (which i only make for myself, luckily i live alone) looks like i thru coffee grounds in it, my boyfriend loves my cooking, but when he is around the first thing he askes is "how much pepper" "followed are you crazy?" it is a good way to have dinner out, lol
and a good point is about the salt, i only use table salt to dye fabric, i have himilayan-pink and grey, black salt, and of course kosher, regular sea, and sometimes anything interesting that i find at the health store, i find most processed foods are bitter do to the sodium or perhaps it is the amount of iodine they put in it, my personal opinion is that we get enough table salt/sodium in the foods we consume all the time, so we are unlike to develope ricketts. ps i am not a health food nut, just hate salt and love pepper jan in palatka |
Can't say that I don't like pepper, but unless it's finely ground, I choke on it. Like some salt.
Thanks everyone. At least now I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like pepper, but we do seem to be in the minority.
I love pepper on most things, but can do without salt.
I hate black pepper big time!!! Wont eat most food with pepper in it. Yucks!!!
Never have cared for pepper, either.
