Hi, I'm a brand new member, but I thought I'd jump right in with the chit-chat. I hope that's okay.

When my daughter was little, she had a mass of curly ringlets. I just kind of let it go wild, because it was cute and grew slowly. Now that she's a little older (she's five) and her hair has thickened, it's very wavy on top with ringlets around her face and at the nape of her neck.

I cut layers into her chin length hair, hoping it would bring the ringlets back to the top, but her shirley temple days are gone, lol. My question is, does anyone use any kind of styling product in their DD's hair? I never have before. She looks cute however her hair is, I was just wondering. FYI, I have stick straight hair, so this curly thing has always baffled me a bit.

There is a good book called Curly Girl that talks about how to care for different types of curly hair and also how to make some products to care for curly hair. I checked it out of the library.

When my DD was little she had to hold her hair so it did not drop into the toilet. Straight as a stick, sorry I am no help. She NEVER wore her hair the same 2 days in a row, I saw to that, braids, ponys, barretts, ect.

Two of my girls have curly,curly hair all the way to their roots. They have always used moose and spritz and let it go natural. People cannot believe it is natural. Me either if you wanna know the truth. They have both cut their hair now to shoulder length and still curly. So have fun and enjoy the curly hair and help her decide how she wants to play. Try everything. Mine even tried straightening it. Shame on them to iron their hair. Those who have straight, want curly, and vice versa.

my daughter had ringlets in the underneath, and wavy on top when she was little. about age 6 the ringlets were gone, just wavy hair. I used conditioner thined down to keep the frizzys down.

I have naturally curly hair and so does my daughter who is now 22. When she was little, we did the mousse thing alot. I will tell you, my daughter was the happiest when we let it grow a little longer and she generally pulled it up in a pony tail. Curly hair tends to 'feel' very unruly, especially in hot, humid weather. Now my daughter has it cut chin length and it is very 'chic' looking on her, but she still kept it longer and pulled it up into a pony tail alot when she was in high school and was a cheerleader and on the tennis team.
When I was growing up, my mom always kept my hair cut fairly short and I was always so envious of my friends who could put their hair in a very sleek pony tail. With my hair, I have just always felt very 'frumpy'.

I do want to let her have her hair the way she wants it. I have memories of my mother torturing me with barrettes and curling irons, lol. My DD just hasn't really shown interest in hair dos, other than having a ponytail once in a while. We let it grow pretty long, but she doesn't like having her hair brushed and the tangles were driving me crazy. I think I will try some kind of leave in conditioner and I am definitely going to check out the curly girls book. Thanks for the info.

When I was little girl with wavy in any direction hair my Mom used to give me those stupid Tonette perms, remember Toni perms? I had to sit there and be tortured and the next day the curl was always gone, but the perm stank was on my head for days. I do not perm, can you tell?

My gd was born w/massive, curly hair. After her 1st hair cut all the curls were gone *pouts* She's left with extremely thick, wavie, beautiful hair.
