I had posted here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-127535-1.htm a couple weeks back about a momma hummingbird nesting in the tree above our patio.
Well, we had our daughter cutting some branches back from our roof. From her view up there, she was able to take a look down in the nest and find a teeny tiny egg and a teeny tiny baby! |
Oh how cool is that. :) Glad you were able to get a picture for us all to see.
OMGosh....thank you so much for sharing that!! I LOVE Hummingbirds :)
so cute...
how wonderful
Thanks very interesting. We have Hummingbirds, haven't seen any nest. Since the invasion of cicadias it the area they haven't been around much, maybe it is time to have babies.
How big is a hummingbird's nest?
Fabulous!

Oh, how adorable. I love hummingbirds. Wish I could see them more.
That picture of the hummingbird nest must be very rare. How awesome to see a baby hummingbird. Thank you for posting.
Amazing - thanks for sharing!
Great picture!

There was a "hummingbird cam" on the internet - probably still there and many of us would check in to see the Mom bird fly off and back as she incubated. Then the eggs hatched and I think the babies are still in the nest. Was so fun - even if I was on another site, if that cam was open on another tab I could hear what sounded like a faint motorbike as the Mom flew off and on the nest!
I know I have nests but they are way up in the Leyland Cypress and well hidden, so I really appreciate this photo! Thanks!! |
Hummingbirds are fascinating to watch. I just put out two feeders, hoping that some will come to my yard.

neat pix -- can't wait until they visit us in August/Sept
They are so fun to watch. Had a nest with two babies in it outside my office. I watched and took pics of them just as you did from the time momma started to laying the eggs til the day that they flew away. Boy they grow fast. Before you know the nest will be nothing but babies. No room to move around in. Enjoy watchint them grow.

Thanks for the picture! I loved last year's picture of the birdfeeder with so many hummers feeding without fighting.
Thank your daughter for getting that photo for us. Thank you for posting it. They are such tiny creatures. So beautiful.

Great pictures! We have a lot of hummers, but I have only seen a hummer's nest one year. And it was empty when I found it.
Thanks for getting such an unusual picture.
I've seen a lot of their nests but never a baby before. Thank you so much for making it possible to see one.
Thanks for sharing that nest is so tiny.

Years ago, we went to Callaway Gardens in Georgia. They have the most outstanding butterfly garden you can imagine. They also had a multitude of hummingbirds that would come so close to you that it was astounding. As you left the garden, you had to be "brushed off" so you didn't help any of the butterflies or hummers hitch a ride out through the "airlock" type of exit. You could peek into hummer nests there, also. It was the highlight of our trip. Don't miss it if you are in that area.
