So this afternoon I'm home with the 18 year old and the 8 year old. I was really tired after staying up late chatting with someone on here who shall remain nameless.:) I decided to lay down and watch some TV for a while.

Apparently I fell asleep for a power nap. I woke up a short time later and went downstairs to switch the laundry again. As I walked into the kitchen I realized something was wrong. Ever get that feeling??? I couldn't put my finger on it at first. Then I realized. The entire kitchen was covered in this fine sheen of white powder. There was some on a few of the counters but it was all over the kitchen floor as well as it had been tracked to the back door and the garage door.

I open the garage door and it looks like a snowstorm just on the other side of the door. My mind is still in a fog and I just cannot place what the heck is going on.

I call my 18 year old down and he pretty much has the same reaction as I do. Neither of us have a clue.

So I call the 8 year old down. "Oh, yeah, Mom. A bag of flour fell on the floor but it's okay because I cleaned it up." I questioned him on just how he cleaned it up and he showed me both the trash can FULL of wet kleenex balls AND the broom. He wiped up what he could and swept the rest into the garage.

And then, because he did his "clean up" in his sock feet, he managed to track it both to the back door AND all the way up the stairs to the playroom.

But it's OK because he cleaned it up:)

Anyone know how to remove flour concrete from tile grout??? ;)

Gotta love those kids!!!!

Pamela Artman 06-16-2010 02:13 PM

Sounds like my entire house... except mine is drywall dust! LOL I've been cleaning for 3 days! Today, I cleaned off the tv, wiped off all the dvds, washed down the shelves in the entertainment center, and then when mopping the wood floor, I looked up and the entertainment center was all dusty again!! grrrrr Will I ever get all the dust cleaned up? Probably just in time to drywall the next room!! LOL

Marjpf 06-16-2010 02:15 PM

I think that "kids" and "thought process" is an oxymoron. I fear you will have to scrape that flour paste away.

craftybear 06-16-2010 02:15 PM

oh no, at least he tried cleaning it up

isnthatodd 06-16-2010 02:15 PM

Apply a very wet rag or sponge and turn it to glue? I do love the fact that he tried to clean it up and didn't wake you up!

granniebj 06-16-2010 02:16 PM

Sounds like the good ole days at my house. Did you finally have a good laugh about it?

It's funny because as soon as he told me what it was I burst out laughing....in his little mind he took care of everything...........as he walked away my 18 year old said "boy I'm sure glad it's YOU here that found that and not Dad" ;) I was just so grateful that it wasn't powdered sugar!!!

sharon b 06-16-2010 02:24 PM

LOL He tried

cjomomma 06-16-2010 02:34 PM

That was too funny!!! Kuddos to the child for making the effort to clean it up.

Pam 06-16-2010 03:24 PM

Oh well, accidents happen. Sounds like you have a couple of good kids. That is the important thing. And getting it out of the grout, LOL.

ruthruff3 06-16-2010 03:39 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has these "experiences"...I love that he "cleaned" it up. I would get it wet and the scrape it up....good luck!!

maryb119 06-16-2010 03:47 PM

Too funny!! He tried...gotta love him!!

SuziC 06-16-2010 03:52 PM

That is Hillarious!!!!!!!
Use a stiff bristled brush on the grout (DRY)
(hubby is a tile man)

Me too!! Re-doing family room down stairs. Have door closed. Door didn't stop the dust from going up stairs! We do spackeling in 3 intervals...spackel sand, spackel sand, spackel sand... what a mess!

2wheelwoman 06-16-2010 04:57 PM

Me too, except mine is dust from removing those nasty "popcorn" ceilings. Dust everywhere!

Do gotta love the intent of the little guy. He tried.

Rachelcb80 06-16-2010 05:40 PM

Girl we are on the same wavelength today! I put the baby down for a nap, threw a DVD in for the two older ones and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up to my oldest wearing different clothes. Hmmmmm. He had an "accident" before reaching the toilet but unlike your child, mine did not attempt to clean anything up. In fact, he left his wet underwear in the middle of the living room floor. Oh the joys of children. :P

littlehud 06-16-2010 06:50 PM

I had to laugh. It sounds just like a kid.

If you put it on a thin coat at a time and smooth it with a wide putty knife, building up 3 or 4 coats and allowing them to dry in between, all you have to do is go over it with a large damp (not wet) sponge and avoid all that sanding and dust.

shopella 06-16-2010 07:40 PM

mine has been to the tub 4 times today! she made a past out of baby powder and hair jell and asked me why I thought it was her and not daddy! She ate a pice of pie I was about to take a picture of wile I was geting bateries...(I took the picture anyway it is cuite)she rolled in mud at grandmas house, and needed a bath after helping pick blueberries.she is sleaping now so I think she is done with baths for the night. Tresure this and add every moment you are stuned over to the photo album so you can show there kids what they were really like....

sewcrafty 06-17-2010 08:28 AM

That's soo funny!! When my son was little and he had a bath I always would put baby powder on him. Well, one day we had a fish fry, flour, cornmeal, etc. After dinner, before clean-up, went into FR to relax for a couple of minutes. Realized I hadn't seen son. Went into kitchen and he was about 1 1/2yrs at this time. He somehow got the flour bag down and was sitting in the cornor rubbing flour all over him. It was absolutely everywhere!!!  I gave bath while ex-H got the shop vac!! What an ordeal!!  Still can picture this!!

amma 06-17-2010 09:31 AM

LMBO I give him an A for effort :D:D:D

Give up. Give up now. Two years later and I am still cleaning up drywall dust from our remodel. Still mad at DH for not springing for the negative pressure system.

angieh1964 06-17-2010 11:29 AM

at least he didnt lie about it my 14 year old is my compulsive liar he would have looked me straight in the eye and said i dont know mom this is also the child who at 2or 3 dumped an entire container of baby powder all over the bathroom...try cleaning that up! oh and how about the time the 2 older ones decided they needed to see what the stuff in a fire extinguisher looks like needless to say took forevere to clean up have fun with that flour lol gotta love boys!

Ramona Byrd 06-18-2010 04:01 PM

Many years ago, as a tired single mom who had
laid down for a nap, I felt a little hand lifting my
eyelid and one little 4 year old calmly saying to
the 5 year old, "Let's not tell Mom the gold fish
don't like corn meal."

Of course that woke me up instantly...the gold
fish bowl was half full of corn meal, with a rather
bewildered fish trying to avoid the new little
mountain in his bowl.

Then there was the time they were fighting and
burst a bag of pinto beans, and a tired mommy
told them to pick up every one of them. The
last one of them was picked up but the garbage
was already taken out, so the oldest, at 5 years
old, didn't have a pocket so of course stuck that
last bean up her nose. A couple of days later it had
swelled up so I took her to the doctor, who
removed her swollen and starting to grow bean
at great expense...

Ahh, kids. The further back things happened, the
more fun I remember having.

that is why we have used blue board & plaster....no sanding!! just prime & paint.

Quilter2B 06-18-2010 09:09 PM

Oh my! My husband and I chuckled with you. I hope you were able to hold it in while your little guy was telling you it was all okay!!! I have tiled countertops too and the best thing I can suggest is to use a toothpick or shishkabob stick. Sorry, don't have anything better that won't damage the seal on the grout. You have to give him credit though, he did try. But I'm sure he will forever remember you don't clean up flour with water.

Me, too! One of my favorite memories is of a then-6-year -old daughter (my second one) who came home from a field trip to the zoo and proceeded to tell me (in front of Grandma and Uncle) that she had seen an a**hole at the zoo! I nearly died laughing, but what she meant was that she had seen a donkey (jackass)! I don't tell that story often, but it's a precious memory for me!

Annz 06-19-2010 03:27 PM

Naw just leave it. It will eventually clean itself up. :XD:

BKinCO 06-19-2010 03:48 PM

This is the BEST idea I've heard yet :) And, so far, that's pretty much all I've done :)

Whatever I clean up is just going to be messy again with something else, right????
