I honestly think this is the cutest picture of my baby girl!!
Sheriff's department found the mother....she evidently heard her baby crying :( SO SWEET!!! Megan and the baby deer she found :) It was hiding under a picnic table....awwww!!! |
Precious!! :D:D:D
|
So was the mother deer OK?
|
So cute! Did the mother deer take the baby back after it had been handled?
|
Yes.....not sure what had happened. The baby started crying so Meg picked it up and then noticed the mother deer moving forward in the woods so she put the fawn down at edge of woods and mom came and got the little thing. It wasn't even walking at first. Poor Meg wanted to be "like Audrey Hepburn and have a 'pet' deer". She knows the baby is better off though.....the Sherrif's Dept was a HUGE help.

WHEW!!! I was worried Mom had been killed or something.
|
That is soooo sweet! Did momma and baby get back together?
I guess I was typing this as you were posting. |

I think fawns are the sweetest looking babies out there.
Does will place their fawns in a safe (to them) place and leave them while they forage for food. If anyone finds a fawn alone, it is usually best to take a "watch and see" approach before disturbing or "rescuing" the baby. The majority of the time the mother will return for her baby. If in doubt, you can always call a wildlife rescue/rehab facility for advice (many hotline numbers can be found online). Obviously, if the fawn is in danger from traffic, dogs or other hazards, you would want to keep it safe. Sadly, many fawns become orphaned unnecessarily each spring because well meaning people think they are abandoned and "rescue" them. |
Awwww! You should frame that pic! How cool is that?
|
For several years, we had a doe that would bring her twin fawns into our front yard and the fawns would rest under the tree next to our deck.
They haven't been around for about 3 years... I miss my deer.. :( |
What wonderful pics! So precious :)

What a beautiful picture and memory!

What a wonderful picture, so sweet. However, I do need to share this. A couple my dog was out doing her business one morning in our yard (we live in the woods) and I think she got too close to where a mama deer had her baby, and the mama deer attacked my dog and tore her up pretty bad. She was beating her with her front hooves. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen.

We, too, are fortunate enough to live in the country and the deer trot through everybody's yards like kids - it is so neat so see them bringing a little newborn almost like they want you to meet them. :-)

cute!

Do be careful! If you ever hear Mom make a blowing, whistling noise know to back away fast. Our deer in the country aren't that used to people, and are very protective of their young. We wouldn't dare go too close.
|
Adorable picture. I am glad the Fawn and Mother are back together. I like stories with a happy ending.
|
How sweet is that picture????Very cute deer and daughter. Mary
