November 2012 Weight Loss Adventure with a Prize

On November 1st weigh yourself and write it down. Do NOT send it to me. On November 30th weigh yourself again and PM me with your loss. This is weight lost not % lost. I will announce the winner December 2nd.

PM me for address. FQ’s need to be received no later than the 10th of month.

You cannot win 2 months in a row.

Chit chat is allowed, as well as WAYWO, (what are we working on). Please stay positive and uplifting as that is what keeps us on track. Come to this thread for tips, recipes, encouragement and {{{{HUGS}}}}}}

The prize is a themed FQ. At the end of the month, I will mail all the FQ’s received to the winner by the 5th of the month. I will contact the winner and announce the winner with the number of FQ’s they will receive.

November we are into fall and heading into winter. The theme for Shades of Blue and White for the reminder of snow and sky. Please send quality what you would want to receive. As always if you cannot send the theme fabric please send what you have. If you don't have a FQ, send a linear 1/4 yard. If you have signed up to be in the competition, please send the FQ to hostess by the 10th of the month. The winner has worked hard for this reward.

Eat healthy, exercise, try and lose weight but most of all have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Sign up deadline to be included in the Prize Adventure is November 4th at 9 p.m. CST, with your FQ received by the 10th of month. You can always contribute to the thread, but it is only fair to have a cutoff for those trying to win.

TO PARTICIPATE, JUST SIGN IN HERE ON THIS THREAD BEFORE NOVEMBER 4TH. THERE IS NO NEED TO PM FOR PARTICIPATION, JUST YOUR ENDING WEIGHT LOSS FOR THE MONTH.
You must sign into the thread at least weekly to be eligible for the winning "skinny quarters" or to be declared "best loser for the month."

Anastasia 10-30-2012 08:57 PM

I'm on the fence on if I want to join the challenge part right now. I'm on the verge of writing IOU's to the post office this month. Depends on what goes on in the next week. But I'm definitely in for the chitchat and support

sewNso 10-31-2012 03:30 AM

i'm in. maybe i will do better this month . but 3 lbs, is still 3 lbs.

Vanogay 10-31-2012 06:48 AM

I'm in too. I also lost 3 pounds, and that's good - I had been in a 'holding' pattern with no losses, but no gains either. With the holidays approaching, I need to get as much off now so my stomach shrinks and I eat less. Watch those munchies - in between snacks - and calorie laden foods.

irishrose 10-31-2012 08:20 AM

I'm in, too. November is blue in honor of snow - we had some Monday night and yesterday, but not the pretty stuff. December is red in honor of love and life, so it's not Christmas fabric. Two fat quarters is as many as I want to choose as once.

Is a prewashed FQ okay? I have the prefect one for Nov - it may even come with a bonus, but it is prewashed. It didn't shrink at all so it wouldn't make any difference in a quilt of unwashed fabric.

Anastasia, you can mail a FQ for less than $.75 unless you have a heavy one. A linear 1/4 yard from your stash is okay, too.

sewNso 10-31-2012 12:56 PM

I have mailed FQ's with l stamp. cut the selvages off, and measure exactly, fold them in half, etc, then in 3rds. can't remember the middle part. i just make it fit the envel. then i was told to put saran wrap around the FQ. i think the last 2 i sent cindy, i cut a little generoues, and used a little extra saran wrap. oh, and i stuck a $ in one. also. cause i took them into the p.o. and it cost me extra. and i had them wted before and then last time. so i know i was okay when i just used l stamp.
back on track. doing okay. guess we 're even then van, right? hang in there. i lost good when i had my arm in a sling. papa was buying groc. and i just told him 'no junk food'.

meanmom 10-31-2012 01:29 PM

I'm in for November. I used to send my FQ for only one stamp then all of a sudden it quit going thru. I don't know why. Prewashed is ok with me. I guess 3 pounds was popular in October that is where I am too. Good luck everyone.

CountryHouseQuilter 10-31-2012 06:19 PM

I'm in for November. It will help to get me through the holiday and keep me good!!!! And who knows, I may lose more than weight this month. Maybe my gall bladder will go away too!! Let's hope so, I'm soooooo tired of this pain!!

I already sent in my FQ's for the 4 months. Good luck to all. I did lose this month, down 6 more lbs. That makes 18 total for me in 3 months. I'm off my stride for 50 by the end of the year, but I'll take what I can get. I didn't put it on quick, I can't take it off quick either. Slow and steady works for me!!!!!

Vanogay 11-01-2012 05:19 AM

Wow, CHQ, 6# is fantastic. You ladies give me the push I need when I see that candy or cookie - I try to remember one of you and how we're all struggling together - and sometimes I don't eat the cookie. Set my mind on a slimmer me.

quilthappygail 11-01-2012 07:12 AM

Hi all, I was up then down then up but I ended with just a half pound down...bummer. I just have to do better in November so I am in again. I think I have the perfect FQ for the Nov winner will send if off in the next few days.
we had over 200 kids come for trick or treat they were all dressed up so cute. Our Jasper had to meet each one, he had such a good time. All the candy is gone so no temptation left.
Okay, Nov is a clean slate so stay strong and keep the "bad" foods out of the house. Hugs to all.
Gail

quiltingcrazy 11-01-2012 07:50 AM

Wow! 6 lbs. in one month! I only lost 2 lbs. this month and I was very very happy with that. I am in for November. I like the idea of checking in each week to see how others are doing and to get some "support" from others. Good Luck everyone - talk to you "lighter"!

CountryHouseQuilter 11-01-2012 04:51 PM

Thanks ladies, but this blog keeps me honest. My gall bladder has helped too. I'm very careful about what I eat, when I eat and how much I eat. Plus it's only water or tea for me. I hate the feeling I get when I eat something wrong. I'm just miserable. Seeing the surgeon on Tuesday. Hoping he looks at my tests and says "yes, out it comes". Want it over with!! I'm making slow and steady progress.

I've been out on vacation for 16 days now. Back to work in the morning, and I'm happy about that. Need to pack my sack for my 12 hr. shift. Yogurt w/blueberries and granola, and a salad with a chunk of tuna. That should work and keep me from feeling like crap. What started out as vacation for a retreat turned into cabin fever with "Sandy" hitting and postponing my return to work. My co-workers can't remember what I look like...LOL.

Jim's Gem 11-02-2012 09:30 AM

I'm in again for this month. You did great CHQ, losing 6 lbs is wonderful. You don't want to take the weight off too fast, then it doesn't stay off.
I lost 5 so you are ahead of me. I am now down about 45 lbs, but it has taken me 10 months to do that. I'm going to keep plugging away. Need to lose at least 43 more, preferably another 75 - 80.

CountryHouseQuilter 11-02-2012 01:39 PM

I hear you Gayle!! I'm happy with my loss, slow and steady. I really don't want to resort to surgery. DH and I have talked about it, but I don't think it's for me (scary). I want to work it off myself, after all, I put it on myself. Right now I'm working towards 50 gone. DH will quit smoking then. I had set a goal for myself of Dec. 31st, but I realize it's going to take a little longer.

45 lbs. is awesome. Maybe I can convience DH that if you loose 50lbs he has to quit...LOL. You're a lot closer to my goal and I really want him to quit!!

My DD is coming home from college tonight to do laundry and steal some groceries and home cooking. I am going to make her take the leftover Halloween candy with her. I need it out of here, I can't stay out of it.
I have been doing the 50 fab paper pieced stars group on here since January. I just finished piecing it. I am really happy with how it came out. Now to decide how to quilt it.

sewNso 11-02-2012 02:33 PM

And i have two sorta relatives that have had wt loss surgery. one had the lap band, and almost died from it. from complications afterwards. just reflux problems--hernia's, etc from puking so hard, etc.
the other one, gained her wt back. after about 6 yrs. right up to almost where she was. i think, truthfully, we just need to try and learn to be moderate in our eating.
i almost hate to say how much wt i have lost. don't know if i want the whole world to know. might PM you two.

that is beautiful, mean. love the black background. i just got the book not to long ago.

Jim's Gem 11-02-2012 03:29 PM

Beautiful quilt Meanmom!!!!
I am buried in little Christmas quilts for the NICU that our Guild donates to. I have 18 all ready to be sandwiched and quilted. I have to finish them by the 14th!!

I though about surgery but decided not to go that route. I need to learn healthier habits anyway so I am working hard at this. I just have not been getting exercise in. My foot and knees don't allow much of that. I can do about a 1/2 mile walk right now and that's it.
I can't stand on the foot for very long either. Just got home from grocery shopping at the base with my girls and I am done with standing for the day. It is not a happy camper!! It means that these quilts will not be getting sandwiched tonight!!!

irishrose 11-02-2012 08:09 PM

What a gorgeous quilt. The background and the sashing were perfect choices for it.

Gayle, try 2 20 minute walks a day and put your feet up for a few minutes in between. Are you walking dogs? If not, look into ski walking poles. When I was dogless, I cut some old bamboo CC ski poles to the ski walking height. They helped a lot with my knees and ankles, plus trimmed my midsection. I want to use them a few minutes everyday, but it's so hard to go walking without the furgirls. Those pathetic eyes get me every time, especially the expressive brown ones on the little one.

Jim's Gem 11-02-2012 09:15 PM

I go alone or with my DH. My little puppy is 14 1/2 years old. She probably would not make it to the end of the street and then I would need to carry all 50 lbs of her back home, so we don't take her on walks any more.
I should go and see if I can find some walking poles. Come to think of it my DH has some hiking poles, maybe I can borrow his!!!!

sewNso 11-03-2012 03:02 AM

j's g. you sound like me. okay, here comes the truth. i have lost 50 lbs also. since feb 14th. that's when i broke my arm/shoulder. i lost about 25 lbs. then stalled. then started again, a couple months later. lost another 25. stalled again. sorta. slower now. would like to lose 50 more lbs.
i stood on concrete for 25 yrs, and had a broken ankle yrs ago. now my bones know it, by the end of the day. i just try to be more active, in my house work, and walking up and down the stairs. 3 stories. with my sewing in the basement. use an excercise bike some. quit going to resistance band excercise class. my shoulder just never healed right, and i thought i was doing more harm than good.

I heard from cindy this morning. what with her moving, looking for a job, and starting her new job, she is really busy. she is going to send the FQ's to me, i think, and let me sort them out.
what say, don't send any FQ's anyplace for this month. if you haven't. join, and if you want, and we will maybe start sending them directly to the winner? what say?
maybe she will keep starting the thread.
we love her encouragement, and kind words she is always giving us.

CountryHouseQuilter 11-03-2012 03:31 AM

meanmom - BEAUTIFUL!!!! Love the colors, and the background makes the stars pop!!!! You do great work!!!! Makes me want to get something finished!!! I have so many projects on the burner. Think I'm going to have to start picking one and finish, one and finish. That might get more things done. Really need to get my basement back into "quilting" order. After I finish work tomorrow I'll be off another week till Monday the 12th. DH and I are going to get the basement back together before I go insane!!! He knows if I'm not sewing/quilting I'm going nutz. How well I have him trained. Plus, when I'm down in the basement I get double benefit. Stairs to go to the bathroom and there is no food down there. Can't wait to get back at it!!

createfourpaws 11-03-2012 06:46 AM

Life loves to throw us curve balls. And I know I have had a few. For those who have been so patient with me on getting their winnings........First I want to APOLOGIZE for my neglect in mailing them out in a timely manner as it says in the sign up.

Second...... they have all been mailed and you should be getting them some time next week. I have added a little extra to those who are way late.......please let me know when you get them.

Again I am sorry and please forgive me.

I am ahead of the game with mailing out the October winnings, they went out this morning with the rest.

I feel my life is getting back to somewhat normal......LOL whatever normal is. I am getting my routine down, and making a plan. I know KARMA will and has gotten me in one way or another.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Quilting.

Susanna10 11-03-2012 08:19 AM

I would like to join. I just lost 6 lbs because I fractured some ribs and lost my appetite and want to keep loosing.

Jim's Gem 11-03-2012 10:40 AM

We'd be glad to have you on board Susanna10!
Sorry to hear about your ribs, ouch!!!!

meanmom 11-03-2012 03:04 PM

Congratulations CHQ. 6 pounds is great. I have got to get back to exercising. My weight loss is stalled and everything is geting soft. I was going to the gym or walking pretty regularly for a while and could definatly see and feel the difference on my body. I help coach a program called Girls on the Run at school. It teaches about being and eating healthy and self esteem. I of course don't run but in a couple of weeks they will run a 5K and I will walk it. This will be my 4th year and my goal is to go a little faster each year. Hope I can do it this year. I bring up the rear and watch for any girls who have trouble running it or anything else. The girls really enjoy it.
Thanks for the compliments on the quilt. I am really happy with how it looks. I too have many UFO's. I have been making myself finish a bunch of them before I can start what I really want to do. I have a bargello I had hoped to start this summer, looks like it will be next summer now. I still have several more UFO's I need to do. I have a quilt that has been sitting for at least 6 months that just needs the binding hand sewed.

sewNso 11-03-2012 03:51 PM

meanmom, you sound like me, as i always have 5 or 6 going. right now i am working on another primary color quilt for a grdsn for xmas. as welll as a dear jane, and a couple BOM that need to be put together. these last two primary quilts i worked on, are stash busters, and/or BOM i had bought a several years ago. trying to resist stash building all i can, but sometimes, i just can't help myself. i resisted the junk food today, did everyone else? or is the the day, you are allowing yourself treats?

irishrose 11-03-2012 04:03 PM

Welcome back, y'all and welcome to Susanna10.

I finished my donation quilt 10 minutes before it was time to deliver it this morning. I am the cashier in the jewelry room. Jewelry is donated and we clean and card it. It is priced low - mostly $1, some a little more and lots $.50 or less. $900 worth was sold in a few hours. My brain is tired from adding quickly. I did take a break to have a cup of tea and a snack with my friend. It's the women's bazaar, but the men work the dining room for us. I will post a picture of the quilt when I find a Kodak USB cord. I installed a new printer this week and it has no port for the SD card. My computer doesn't seem to have one either. I just have to remember where I put the cords - in the top of the computer desk, maybe??

Well, the fun has begin. The doctor I saw yesterday says I have fungal meningitis growing in my SI joints - which are very close to the spine. I have to have an MRI immediately. He says it diagnoses better than a spinal tap in these cases. Hey, I don't have an expendable $150 for my copay - I and I am claustrophobic. He said they have three very ill patients in their hospital who have had to had there joints scraped of mold and one died in the big medical center in Petosky this morning. Yikes. I'm not sure I agree with him, but when I was obviously dragging my feet, He said, "You don't understand - you will die without treatment." Another yikes! My house is too cluttered. I wouldn't do that to my children.

Gayle, http://www.skiwalking.com/
and check out this blog:
http://nordic-walking-usa.com/2010/1...s-pain-relief/ If I didn't have Lily and Moira, I'd immediately purchase the $70 ones.

Congratulations, CHQ. 6 pounds is near the perfect 2 pounds a week.

Dr Oz had a good program this week - maybe Thursday - check his website - they have videos of most of the featured segments. One high carb day, one low carb day with a feast day on Sunday. The success rate seems to be high and I could do this easily. The feast day adds 1000 calories. Wow! He recommended having it out of the house so you won't have leftovers looking at you on Monday. Did he ever hear of a freezer? I am a better baker and sometimes a better cook than any local restaurant. The low/high carb days are calorie controlled - whatever your normal limited intake is. Mine 1380 calories - 10 calories for every pound of my desired weight which is 138. Those aren't Dr OZ numbers, just old ones that work for me.

I am losing weight and getting healthier.
Judy

meanmom 11-04-2012 06:26 AM

Irish quit dragging your feet and get to the doctor. There are open MRI's or they can give you something. If you don't take care of the meningitis it will just get worse. We will pray for you. Sounds awful.
The Halloween candy is gone from my house. That is a good thing. I have had my hand in the bag way too many times. I sent it home with my DD. Her roommates are thrilled with the goodies. I am a chocolate addict and there doesn't seem to be a cure for me. I am going to the gym today for the first time in weeks. As soon as the washing machine is finished I am going to the gym.
Healthy eating to all. Drink your water and eat your vegetables.
Pat

CountryHouseQuilter 11-04-2012 06:28 AM

Thank you all for all the congratulations!!!! You don't know how good that makes me feel, oh, and the fact that the pants I have on are a little baggier than normal!! Just need to keep plugging away. The next 2 months are the "hard" months!!!! keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get tempted and side tracked. Busy busy will be my key to get by!!

MeanMom, I know what you mean about UFO's. I'm finishing the binding on 2 quilts I made - 3 yrs ago. One was a BDay gift for my Mom. She's 84 this month, and asked "Will I have it by next Halloween". I told her it was incentive for her to stick around...LOL. I'm going to finish it today and wash it tonight. She gets it tomorrow. She'll be surprised...LOL...that she got it.

Cindy, glad you're sticking around to run things!!!! You keep us all positive and focused. I always enjoy reading all the posts here about everybody and what they're up to, their successes, struggles, how they overcome things. They help me a lot, puts things in focus for me. Keep up the good work!!!!

createfourpaws 11-04-2012 07:05 AM

As the holiday season is upon us, we need to remember how hard we have worked at taking on the weight we have lost.

First, lets remember the little things we have learned along the way.........some of the things that come to my mind are :

eating on the smaller plates
watching the portion size
watch the amount of white foods we eat........look at what we can replace it with
go for the veggies that are not loaded with all the bad stuff...LOL

We also need to remember our excerising, no matter how little or much we do.

Make wise choices and you will be successful.

My biggest challenge will be the cookies that I make........have some Almond Spritz cookies. It is hard but I will succeed in my efforts.

I think one of the things that will help me is that my son and DIL will not be coming for the holiday. He doesn't have enough vacation time. I wish he did.

createfourpaws 11-04-2012 07:17 AM

Irish..........stop putting this off........get yourself taken care of. You need to take care of yourself first. Don't worry about the way the house looks.

SNS- it is all good. I will not hesitate in the future to ask for some help.

Susanna10 - welcome to the group. we have lots of fun and encourage one another all the time. Share anything you want.......projects you are working on, challenges with your weight loss, etc

Speaking of Halloween candy, we had 10 pieces left after all the kids came by. Had 300 pieces and each child only got 1 piece this year as funds for us here were very tight. Bought half as much as in years past with the same amount of kids coming by. WOW

Well today I am getting some food made up for my work week. I have to get use to working 5 days aweek instead of the 3 I did when I was in the hospitals. My hours are 9-6 CST.....working for a portable oxygen company.......and by the time I get home it is later than I like to eat my big meal of the day. SO I want to make my lunch the biggest meal of the day, with out spending lots of money each day. Today I have chicken breast in the crock pot, will make some chicken salad........and have the chicken packaged in portion sizes and make some side items. This is what was in the freezer......so I may be chickened out soon. I know mom made spagetti this weekend so I will probable take that on monday with a mid size salad and no bread.

Have a wonderful and blessed day...........I am also gonna try to work on a Tshirt quilt I need to get done.

Pam H 11-04-2012 08:06 AM

I am in for November. I was gone for almost a week and didn't have internet access. Will catch up later. I am off to put together the crib for grand baby #1.

sewNso 11-04-2012 09:54 AM

hello all. halloween candy????? sure..... mine is gone. i only had like 5 pieces in the house, and i ate it all one day......so, now it's gone. tootsie rolls and l twix bar. all minatures. i know, they were good. the only candy i have had in months. we don't get tricker-treaters out in the boonies, but did go to a local halloween parade, and helped a 3 yr old grandson, pick up candy that was thrown to us spectators. all of it made it into his pail, but the 5 pices i took for 'taxes'. :)
welcome, newbees. friendly lot here. and lots of wt getting lost as well.
off to a funeral today. gotta make good choices at the dinner.

irishrose 11-04-2012 12:24 PM

I am not dragging my feet, believe me. I went from the doctor's office to the hospital for blood work and will have the MRI as soon as Priority approves it. I went to my local hospital to look at the new machine, but the MRI techs weren't there so it was locked. I will call in the morning and go see it. If I can make myself do a semi closed machine, it would be easier for my family than traveling to an open one. I plan on proving on the doctor wrong, but if I have it, I will do what needs to be done short of hospitalization.

In the meantime, I will clean house, make the Spicy Spiral I cut out wrong, walk the dogs and not eat all the chocolate in the house and, of course , pray and treat my body in a healthy way. Sounds like a day's work, so I'll see you later.

createfourpaws 11-04-2012 01:15 PM

Irish.......sorry to assume you were dragging your feet on the MRI.......and yes I understand about feeling closed in on the MRI. I know my mom couldn't do a traditional MRI machine but she was able to do the Open MRI.

I love the Spicy Spiral......do you know where I can find the pattern for it? I haven't seen it locally.

I have been cooking some chicken and thin pork chops. I think I am gonna make me some fried brown rice with pork and chicken for this week. One nice thing is that work is starting a new program next year for healthy living .....focusing on weight and a healthy lifestyle.

createfourpaws 11-04-2012 01:19 PM

I also forgot........I am working on my grocery list for when I get some money.....lol so I can plan for a healthy and wiser choices when I am making my meals since I only have me to worry about.

I have been drinking too much soda since I started back to work, need to take my decaf tea and water with me to stay away from the sodas.

Keep up your hard work and remember you are in control of what you eat and drink.
