Thumbs up Score from resale shop!

DH and I went to our favorite resale shop today looking for clay pots for a project he is working on. While he was looking for clay pots, I drifted to the fabric aisle and found this 7 yard piece of symmetrical sett, tartan plaid. It made from the softest wool. (Yes I did the ash test to verify it was pure wool.) It is a heavy weight (probably 16 oz) wool that currently sells for around $85.00 per meter! The shocking part is I got it for $7.99! whoopee! Happy dance!

The tartan is not of my clan, (McDuff) and it may take me a while to identify it, so if any of you have any ideas, or guesses, or know of a way to quickly identify it, please speak up. It has red, black, green, white, yellow, and just the smallest touch of blue. ( Clan Tartans are only allowed to have six or less colors.)

Now, what to use it for...

I think that is similar to Royal Stuart.

http://www.scottishtradingcompany.com/ has a tartan finder. Check out the Stewart Prince Charles Edward Modern pattern in the Reiver and Strome weights. Beautiful fabric even if it isn't your clan.

I love it! It might be a "Mcmodern" fashion tartan rather than an actual clan. You have a couple of great sites to investigate your find.

Very nice, I have seen neck scarves made with that years ago. Will it shrink?

Yes, it is pure wool so it will shrink if handled improperly.

I tried both sites, and if you have the NAME, they can find the tartan, not find the name of a Tartan, but thank you anyway.

If you do not like the tartan aspect you can use it as a summer wool batting for a twin sized quilt. You scored!

On this site, over on the right hand side, just above the man squatting in the kilt, in samll blue lettering, you can look for plaids by color. I have limited data transmission so I couldn't spend long on the site, but if you have a better connection, you MIGHT be able to find it among their 286 pages!!!

It sure is pretty and a great find!
