I believe that. I was raised being told you can't train a cat; so not true. Mine is close to 20 yrs old and she's still learning. About 5yrs ago she decided she didn't want to use the litter box anymore. It took me awhile but I ended up getting her trained to go outside when she needed. Two years ago, I put in a doggie door because I had a large very old dog who had a hard time holding it all day while I was at work. I could see the pain in his eyes when he went in the house, so I had the door put in. The cat also learned to use it in about a second. She loves it, total freedom for her. It's getting cold here and I live in a very old house with cold floors. While my animals aren't allowed on the furniture I put a white blanket folded into a square on the sofa and she won't get up there unless her blanket is there. During the summer she just lies on a shelf or the floor so its not like she uses this blanket all the time. only in the winter time. Cats are a lot smarter than given credit for. I'll have to check the circle, wonder how big it would need to be. They normally like to curl into a ball so I figure they'd have to have a circle that big.

Anything new that I put on the floor my cat will go lay or sit in it. I've even put brown groceries bags on the floor, he doesn't hide in them, he smashes them and lays down. That usually lasts a day if even that long. He does have a blanket and he has been trained to lay on it when he wants to be on the furniture.
