Anything new that I put on the floor my cat will go lay or sit in it. I've even put brown groceries bags on the floor, he doesn't hide in them, he smashes them and lays down. That usually lasts a day if even that long. He does have a blanket and he has been trained to lay on it when he wants to be on the furniture.
