Unusual Place Names
#76
In Oklahoma we've got many towns with Native American names... when the OKC TV stations hire new weather broadcasters, its a hoot to hear them try to pronounce the names...
Oklahoma has a Miami, and a Berlin... not too many other interesting names come to mind... There are about 34-35 Clinton's in the USA... we like to call ours "Clinton, America" :-D The funniest town that comes immediately to mind is a wide-place-in-the-road in northwestern Ok called "Slapout"
Fun to hear of all the unusual names....

West Virginia has quite a few unusual names for towns - Bloomingrose, Comfort, Nitro, Paw Paw, Iager (pronounced Yeager) but the one I seem to keeping going back to is one from PA - Bird-in-hand, Lancaster County, PA

I live in Ten Mile, TN, but no one knows what it is ten miles to or from. Originally it was called Ten Mile Station, which sounds like a wagon trail stop. There are no train tracks in our area. Worked with a woman from Monkey's Eyebrow, KY, that moonwork42029 mentioned.
