I know someone who loves to go to Chicken, Alaska. I read up on it and the reason it's called Chicken is that they supposedly didn't know how to spell Ptarmigan which is the local bird.

It makes you wonder what happened to name some of those towns. http://www.af4k.com/townname.htm

We once drove through a town called Blue Eye, AR and then there is Oconomowoc (Oh Cow No Walk), WI. I live on Chautauqua St.

Greenbottom, Jolly's Bottom and Skinner's Bottom were all places near the village where I grew up in Cornwall, SW England.
