Default US Post Office rate increases - again...

    http://bottomline.msnbc.msn.com/_new...-for-your-mail

First class letters will be up to 45 cents. Get your forever stamps now.

rates will go up 3-5%, starting Jan. 22 2012. I guess it happens every year now. Just a heads up.

It's too bad the Postal Service can't make it. I heard (or read) that they depend on bulk mailing because of the sharp reduction in first class mail. Seems like email, Texting and FAX have taken over as the primary ways people communicate so aren't mailing things anymore. Many statements I get from banks, insurance, etc. all say "if you want to make this paper statement go away, enroll in our e-statement program". so even they aren't mailing as much. Yet, we want our mail delivered and all services that we are used to. I guess we and they are between a rock and a hard place.

When I worked the window at the post office I never heard such an uproar or the price increase for stamps. We will pay price increases for any number of other things, but let the post office raise the rate by one cent... I don't think many people would bother to pick a penny up from the ground. We have the best post service in the entire world.

I hardly use the post office anymore, maybe once or twice a year. I'm still working on the 20-count booklet of stamps I purchased 4 years ago.
