for smaller animals, you can do this - get an old sweater or sweatshirt - old pillow goes in the body part, sew arms to sides, stuff with poly, sew up all openings. Makes a nice little bed.

I use old pillow cases they suit most cats n dogs, if it is an extra large dog you can put a couple, or three, under a blankie.

I have birthed pillowcases with poly/cotton batting and have also folded large scraps from sheets to make pet beds. They're light enough and dry quickly. I just do a cross hatch/criss cross stitch. I did call the shelters first.

I take my scraps, throw them on the cutting mat and rotary cut them into tiny pieces, then make "pillow cases" out of fabric that I don't want anymore.

Call and ask first. I made one from scraps for my dog, she loved it and I did too until I washed it. Lumpy, bumpy mess that took forever to dry even in the dry AZ heat.

I found an animal rescue group that willingly takes anything I make. They have foster families that host the dogs until they are adopted. This last batch, I made with an outer covering that can be washed. I've asked for feedback and once I receive it, I'll share here. My purpose is to utilize all bits of fabric, etc. If I have to add larger pieces of batting......I'm defeating my purpose. (I'd rather use those larger pieces for placemats, coasters, baby quilts, etc.).

We make small quilts using our leftover cotton quilting fabrics and 100% cotton batting or Warm and Natural. No flannel because it does not seem to wear well with all the pulling and tugging and rearranging that the animals are so good at. Cotton thread for sewing and quilting. If threads get loose, the cotton is less likely to harm the animals. Most, but not all, shelters are grateful for any supplies you can provide. The animals thank you!
