My 9 year old Yorkie developed skin problems also. She chewed on her back until it was bloody I had also always fed her the same food. Purina One. A friend suggested a food without fillers and grains. I changed her food and she has not had any problems since.

Yes animals, like people, can become allergic to things they have been exposed to for many years. I became allergic to my dog when he was 17, and our cat became allergic to his food when he was 14. It could very well be a food allergy. Once we changed the cat food to something more wholesome (for his older system) he was fine. It took three months of frustration to figure it out though.

Do you use latex feeding bowls? Many pets are allergic to them. we switched all of our pets to stainless steel.
