lucky my laptop didn't get it..
please,please update your computer,through microsoft,there is a major security patch that came out on the 10th and updated on the 27th.
run your spyware program,malware,and others, and keep your virus protection up to date. My PC was so infected, the virus took out my printer and scanner..would not even let me back up my hard drive..i lost everything, and i mean everything. pictures that were stored in "my pictures", addresses,important papers..if they were not backed up or printed out..they are gone now.
this virus is rated 96 out of 100, in terms of being bad.
i had no back up..the computer had to be reformated...
the only pictures that were not lost, were the ones stored in picasa or other picture programs that are stored off site.

I just went to the link. It made me install an update installer first, and then it had 69!!!!!!!!! so-called "high-priority" updates for me to install.

One of these was Internet Explorer 8. IMO it's not high priority to have version 8 over version 7, so I unchecked that box. I opened a few others at random but ultimately just let the other 68 install.

Then I went back to see what else was there - and it had 4 more "high priority" ones to install, also 9 optional ones. I may do most of the optional ones later, but what annoys me is that it doesn't seem to notice that I have the latests graphics driver. It's telling me I need it. Also, I updated my sound card driver a few months back, and it's giving me an update from last February. So I wonder how many of these I really needed, seeing as how I installed updates only a few months ago. Still, if a new security update was there, it sure got installed.

(My complaints are directed at Microsoft. I'm still grateful for your post!)

I would just be only concerned about the security updates Lisa.

Don't know about the others..i also didn't upgrade to IE8, my computer started acting up, when i downloaded it..so i took it out.
i just got a call from my computer guy, and even though he reformatted the drive,he has to do a "boot and nuke" on it..(special program) it makes me sick. that people have nothing better to do, than to make trojans and virus programs..
my son in law works on computers in the school district, and some virus has him up in arms.

make sure you have a back up, in case of a virus..( a seperate hard drive.) it is just not worth the anger and frustration. and then at least you will have all your documents,pictures and favorites or bookmarks...

Yeah, your link goes to the security updates page, but once you click on the Download button, you get taken to an overall updates page. Most of the ones listed for me were billed as security updates, even MS IE 8, which is NOT a security update. Just one more reason why I don't trust Microsoft all that much. I have to wonder what kind of monitoring software they embed in their updates.

I have a flash drive for backing up my data files. I don't have a second hard drive for a fille backup of all apps, and some of them can't be replaced. However, I do keep my anti-virus software current and also have anti-malware software.

That doesn't mean I haven't had a trojan and other malware, even a virus at one point, but at least it all got caught before it damaged anything.

I've seen viruses happen at my old jobs. Amazing, since I'm in IT and IT companies use firewalls and anti-virus software, and almost everyone there knows better - and people still open suspicious emails and download files without checking them.

Sorry to hear your system is requiring all that work. At least it sounds like it's all fixable.
