For further confusion, "well" can also be used as an adjective to mean "healthy" in front of a noun: "I was treated by the only well physician in the clinic. All the rest were coughing and sneezing like their patients! They're good doctors every day, but today there was only well doctor . "

Something that I've been hearing lately -- when did it become "well wishes" instead of "good wishes" (e.g. "sending you well wishes for your recovery").

I teach college students and discourage their extreme over use of "great". It implies a comparison of qualities that they know little about as emergent professionals. EX: The director of the center was great. I would follow the suggestion of ptquilts. And if your ears sort of crinkle when you use well ..... then use good. This was a good conversation. We may cover the topic well and Kellogg Frosted Flakes are Grrrrrreat!
