When do you stop reading the previous posts and then add your comment to a thread?

If it's a finished item in pictures, or a cute pet photo - I feel reasonably confident to add a "It's cute, lovely, beautiful. . . " without reading anything more than the first post.

If someone has posted a "what should I do next . . ." type of post - do you read all the way through, or do you jump in right away?

It's 'sort of' funny when about three pages in the original poster has posted the finished item and people are still making suggestions on page 9.

If I read all of the comments on each thread I would never get anything else done. If it is something really interesting to me I will read all of the comments, but most of the time I just skim through quickly.

I generally read/skim all or most responses before I respond because I agree it's silly to read the same comment over and over, or one that is finally completely off topic.

The only thing I look at are the pictures. I do comment on a post but rarely read what anyone says, who has the time ? I am too busy quilting and that is my fun.

I try to do the same, more or less. If it's a picture, I'll usually comment. If it's a question, I'll read ahead, before commenting. If it's a question with many, many answer pages, I often just skip it, assuming someone has surely already said what I would say. That said, I'll sometimes be composing an answer and by the time I finish and send, someone else has posted a similar response, having written and posted more quickly, right before me!

I agree it's a bit odd, to read answers/suggestions, long after the OP has announced the end of the issue.

If it is someone asking for help or advice, I usually read the answers because I can get a lot of great info from the posts that I can use myself. If it's pictures, I don't always read them all but I usually add another beautiful to the number already posted. I figure you can never have too many compliments even if they are repetitive.

That's what I do also. Also, if I want to ask a question about a picture, I will read them all to see if the question has been asked and answered before I ask the question.

On discussion threads, I read everything already posted before I decide to say something...and I use the advanced format with preview so I know if something has been added while I was writing. I also listen to a conversation for awhile before I open my mouth...especially if I wasn't in the room when it started. I'd much rather have all the available info before adding my two cents on a subject.
