Have any of you made stuffed animals out of orfaned blocks?

I have a whole bunch of nine patch blocks that I recieved in a block swap from another web site. I was thinking about making some of them into teddy bears and stuffed animals. I have heard of recycling old quilts and was wondering if I should put backings on the blocks for stability since the blocks have so many small pieces and I am not sure if the seams will stay closed. I am afraid of putting batting inbetween as it would be pretty bulky when I turn the legs and arms.

barbsbus,
I've been thinking about doing the same thing with some blocks my grandmother made before she died. I think backing is a good idea. I have seen them made out of old quilts but the batting is very low loft. I think either way would work, batting would take less fill.

Good idea about the fusable interfacing. I could cut the interfacing as a pattern and then iron it on the back of the blocks. Got to go try it.
