Ikea fabric....

I had no idea Ikea sold fabric! I found this out accidently and decided to take a look. They do have about 5 pages of fabric under their Textile category. The prices range from 2.99 to 8.99 but not all of it is cotton. What I saw was different pattern-wise then anything else I have seen... So go take a look for yourself. Its at:

And what I have seen from the local IKEA (love, love, love this store!) is the weave is very loose on their cottons. The patterns are wild and crazy and fun, but just woven loosly. I get tempted by the patterns, but a don't like seeing my batting through the fabric, ya know?

Actually, most of their fabric is thicker, home dec. type-all cotton. For making pillows heavy curtains etc. MY IKEA is close and the prices are great. But, most of the home dec type fabrics have very large patterns on them. You'd have to be creative in their use.

I too discovered Ikea fabric - here is a book bag I made for a special soon to be 7 yr old. Heavy weight - washes up good - bright colors did not run. fun to work with.
played with a pocket placement

my ikea has loosely-woven fabric that i wouldn't bother quilting with and then home-dec fabric that i think is a little heavy for quilting. but the designs do change frequently and you have to keep popping in to see what they have at that moment.
nice bag. great gift for any age.

Ikea has some really nice stuff, and great for bags, and home dec. One warning though, they only sell in one yard cuts. I found a piece I really wanted for a bag for my daughter, and there was about 5/8ths of a yard. The gal in the dept called her manager and told the her it was fine, since it was the end of the bolt. But when I took it down to checkout, the manager there said no way. I could buy it, but I had to pay for a full yard. Which is silly of course. I asked her what they would do with it. She said probably make it into scraps, whatever that meant. And she refused to call up to the manager that said it was fine. I still love Ikea, but I will certainly be more careful about falling in love with a short piece.
