Papers for epp
Hi,
my next step in the LaPass saga, or short story.... Not sure which yet..... I looked at paperpieces.com for the shapes- I have purchased many things from them, well pleased with all, and was sort of surprised at the prices for the three packets available. It says you can reuse, but in my past experience, not me! I ordered the least expensive, just to see.......for those who have done this monumental project, where or how did you do it....now I'm talking epp, not inklingo hand piecing....... It could get very costly buying those gazilion papers!

I've not researched the LaPass quilts at all so this is just some rambling.
When I decided to do a tumbling blocks quilt eons ago, I cut all my own pieces using old file folders. Those I can definitely re-use. Not sure this would be an option for the LaPass or not.
I know my LQS sells papers for these (http://penningtonquilts.com/) or how their prices compare but perhaps you could check them out.

I am doing the Insanity Quilt by Rhonda Pearce - 10,360 half inch hexagons! I started buying the papers from Paper Pieces but that was running into a lot of money. Then my girlfriend suggested getting the Fiskars hexie punch and using the inserts that come in magazines - thicker than regular paper but not as thick as file folders. These have worked beautifully.
Then I found an AccuQuilt die that cuts the fabric with a quarter inch seam AND the perfect size paper hexies. I have been cutting 4 - 6 layers of fabric and 2 - 4 layers of paper at a time. I still have a long way to go but the ease and precision of the die is wonderful!

For my hexies I do have the fiskar punch and also the accuquilt die....the problem I have with the die is the fab hex only gives 1/4" seam allowance, whereas I prefer 3/8" of the paperpieces.com templates, so I have used the paper side, not the fab side of die......... But unfortunately there is not a punch or die available for la pass......

Back when the La Pass face book page first opened a lady's engineering computer guru husband drafted her a page w/ each shape. She shared the files. Later there was some concern about copy right issues and the files were removed. But while they were up I copied them to my computer. This was no infringement, the shapes are not copy righted, diamonds, pente's, and triangles can't be copy righted and the files were put on the page w/ the intent of others using them, they stayed on for months.
